The Office (Introit):

Today let us deck with praise the King of the Apostles together with the

Psalmist:

II}I Right dear, 0 God, are Thy friends unto me,

Thus gazing upon their heavenly glory I he spake directly in this manner:

And held in highest honour;

For which the legion of heavenly congregations rejoiceth unendingly:

Their rule and governance is exceeding stedf'ast,

Heavenly stations are designated for the devout, and the denizens of hell unto the proud.

Ps . 0 Lord, Thou hast search-ed me out, and known me; Thou knowest my down-sitting and mine up-rising.

Let praise meet for our teachers now abound upon the Feasts of the

Apostles:

Right dear, 0 God, are Thy friends unto me,

The glorious angelic Fathers, pla-ced on high above heavenly sheep;

And held in highest honour; .

They intoxicate the universe with the Wisdom of the Gospel, , Their rule and governance is exceeding stedfast.

y_ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, It and to the Holy Ghost.

As it was in tlie beginning, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages.

Amen. -

Astonishingly the Prophet. Davi~ did announce the loIn praise of the budding rank of the Apostles, saying this:

Right dear, 0 God, are Thy friends unto me, and held in highest honour; Wh.om the Divine love hath verily join-ed into Thee as Thy friends,'

.... Their rule and governance is exceeding stedfast.

Ps. If I tell them, .they are more in number than the sand: when I wake

up, I am present with Thee.

Over flowing with awe the Prophet shouteth. with a resonant voice:

Right dear, 0 God, are Thy friends unto me, and held in highest honour; Who are merg-ed together in Thy' Presence, and fill-ed with the Spirit

Divine,

Their rule and governance is exceeding stedfast.

The Epistle:

A Reading from the Epistle of blessed Paul the Apostle, to the Ephesians:

Brethren: Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens with the Saints, and of the Household of God.

And are built upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, Jesus Christ Himself Being the Chief Corner Stone;

In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an Holy Temple in the Lord;

In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God in the Spirit. (Eph. 2: 19 - 22) ~. Thanks be to God.

The Gradual:

The Cathedral Graduale assigns the following Gradual:

Their sound is gone out into all lands, and the words into the ends of the world.

y. The Heav'ns declare the Glory of God, and the firmament sheweth His handiwork.

But the Monastic Graduale assigns the following Gradual:

Thou shalt make them princes over all the Earth; they shall have T~X Name in remembrance, 0 Lord.

'fl. "Instead of thy fathers thou shalt have children; therefore shall the people give thanks unto thee."

Thou shalt make them princes over all the Earth; they shall have Thy Name in remembrance, 0 Lord.

The Alleluya:

The Cathedral Graduale assigns the following Alleluya:

The Sequence:

The Cathedral Graduale assigns the following Sequence:

Illustrious Council of the Apostles holy, .

Ruling the divers kingdoms of the world, The Church's guide irtlife and conversation,

Which, by Thy doctrines, in the Faith yet stand fast.

Lo! Antioch and Rome yield unto thee, 0 Peter, both their kingdom and their throne;

Once the realm of mighty Alexander, the land of Greece, hath been seized by thee, Paul:

The native Ethiopians, Matthew, thou hast with the white fleece - Of the Lamb invested, Which with no spot or blemish is Defiled.

Thomas, Bartholomew, John, Philip, Simon,

James, both the Great and Less, Andrew, Thaddams, Ye warriors of God of high renown,

The east and west, yea, and the whole round world, Account it joy that they may call you fathers,

For whom they look to sit in judgment on them;

For which cause unto you, ye holy men,

The universe, as is its bounden duty,

Doth tribute pay of reverence and honour.

But the Monastic Graduale assigns the following Sequence in place of the above:

ALLE-(Let the chorus of chantors sing canticle, and sweetly join together with)-LUY A!

And now with rhythmic ringing voice making marvellous melodies

Concerning the splendid crown of the Apostle Bartholomew.

o Prince, teacher of the Indies, 'fore-chosen Apostle, providing the world with seed;

The Elder Senator, who ably shineth forth with noble angelic laurel crown.

For as soon as he enter'd India, he had the shrines of the demons bound up;

And then he restor'd the disfigur'd daughter of the king to beauteous countenance.

Exalted by this astonishment, Polymias the King,

His dear people wholly and entir'ly seek for Baptism.

The sight of which remarkable great abundance of virtues The pagan priests sadly narrate, fearing the soldier of Christ,

By order of whom, the demon himself broke up his shrines by hurling down the idols.

To this, the Lord of Apostles accomplishing all good things,

Astyarges, wicked brother of King Polymias, order'd

And Jesus said unto them: "The kings of the gentiles .exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.

"But ye shall not be so; but -he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
