Strengths
• The Gaming Industry has been on a steady climb
up in the past few years
• A lot more job and educational opportunities
making the industry a desired one.
• Part of the technology revolution which means a
more secure field to be in
• Is incorporated from cell phones to game consoles.
• Optimistic future, found in hospitals and rehab
clinics for better health and wellness (medical
field..which is a great field as well)
Weaknesses
• Unstable industry as developers and publishers are not
“always” on the same page.
• The time to create a game sometimes doesn’t hit until after
purchasing season.
• Up and down patterns of employment due to many other
competitors.
• A highly skilled industry which demands more graduates to
succeed.
• Sometimes can’t keep up with constant changing (movies as
games exp; Shrek 1,2,3) since movies come out more
frequently and sequels which shows the gap between first and
second generation of the game developed.
Opportunities
• Growing industry which fits in the technology
revolution.
• A lot more schools are starting to realize it’s
potential as a new degree
• Getting more attention especially from the
younger target market.
• Can be found in fields from Telecommunications
to Medical.
Threats
• Industry divided between publishers and
developers, could create a unstable industry
• Movie industry could come out with something
like current CGI and combine industry
(exp., Interactive T.V. )
Conclusion
The gaming degree could be a great major to offer
since it is a industry on the rise. A market filled
with potential could lead to a lucrative industry
as long as the field can decide what to do with the
division between developers and publishers, and
it can adapt to an ever changing market. If the
industry can improve its completion time to
keep up with its constant changing market
segment. The gaming degree is a promising one
with many opportunities abroad.
