INCIDENCE
 Around the world, 45 million people
are blind and more than 135 million
are visually disabled.
 About 80% [4/5] of those who are
blind have curable conditions.
 It is unacceptable.
 Blindness can be prevented by proper
diet and early treatment of eye
diseases.
CHILDHOOD BLINDNESS

 Of the 45 million blind people in the world,


about 2 million are children under 16.

CHILDREN
 Vitamin A deficiency
 Injuries to eye
 Refractive errors -
uncorrected
 Squints
 And many other causes

 Fish oils
 Fruits – mango, papaya, etc.
 Vegetables – carrots, spinach, and other
green leafy vegetables
VITAMIN A DEFICIENCY
 Vitamin A is very important for proper
functioning of eyes.
 Its deficiency causes night blindness.
 In the late stages, it causes blindness.

 Provide corrective glasses for children with
refractive errors.
 Take diet full of vitamins and minerals.
 Early detection and treatment of eye
diseases.

special schools.
