 A trade union is a formal association of


workers that promotes & protects the
interests of its members through collective
action. It is formed for securing certain
economic & social benefits to members. It
emphasises joint, coordinated action &
collective bargaining.

 Early Period :- The first factory act, 1881,


was passed on the basis of the
recommendations of the Bombay Factory
Commission,1875.
 Present Position:- 7000 Trade unions & 70
Federations are registered under the Trade
Union Act,1926.
The Trade Union Act,1926 & Legal
Framework:-

 This act legalises the formation of trade


unions by allowing employees the right to
form & organise unions. It permits any 7
persons to form their union & get it registered
under the Act.
