DEFINITION
• Factors that cause,channel and sustain an
individuals' behavior.
• Management process of influencing people’s
behavior based on the knowledge of what
makes people tick.
Assumptions
• Commonly assumed to be good thing.
• One of several factors that goes into a
person’s performance.
• Is in short supply & in need of periodic
replenishment
• Is a tool which managers can arrange job
relationships in organizations.
Theories of motivation

• Helps us understand dynamic engagement in


which organizations operate by depicting
managers & employees engaging in
organizations everyday.
• Frederick Taylor’s model-managers
understood the work better than workers who
were essentially lazy & could be motivated
only by money.
• Elton Mayo’s model-boredom & repetitiveness
of many tasks reduced motivations, while
social contacts helped create & sustain
motivation.
