ICELAND LOCATION
Iceland is beautiful location enriched in topography and other natural
phenomena.
Lundey, literally "Puffin Island" in Icelandic, is a
small, uninhabited island off the western coast of
Reykjavík, Iceland. It is about 400 meters long
and 150 meters wide. Its highest point lies about
14 meters above sea level. The island serves as a
haven for seabirds, including puffins, black
guillemots, fulmars and Arctic terns. Frequent
sightseeing tours from nearby Sundahöfn harbour
travel here by boat, as puffins and other seabirds
have become a major tourist attraction in Iceland.
Stokkseyri, a small town in
Southern Iceland, with population
of around 530 inhabitants.
Founded around 900 AD by the
settler Hásteinn Atlason. It was an
important fishing and trading
village in previous times, and now
it's become more of a tourist
attraction.
Hofsós is one of the oldest trading ports in
Iceland dating back to the 16th century. This
was largely due to its natural harbour. The
economy has been based mainly on the fishing
industry as well as services to the
neighbouring farms. In recent years Hofsós
has built itself up as a tourist attraction and
has the Western Emigration Centre and the
Drangey Exhibition in the old Pakkhús. Other
services offered are accommodation in
guesthouses, a restaurant, coffee-house, and a
camping site. There are also pleasant walks
along the shore with good examples of
hexagonal basalt columns.
Gullfoss is one of the most popular tourist
attractions in the country. The wide Hvítá
rushes southward. About a kilometre above
the falls it turns sharply to the left and flows
down into a wide curved three-step
"staircase" and then abruptly plunges in two
stages (11 m and 21 m) into a crevice 32 m
(105 ft) deep. The crevice, about 20 m (60 ft)
wide, and 2.5 km in length, is at right angles
to the flow of the river. The average amount
of water running over this waterfall is 140
m³/s in the summertime and 80 m³/s in the
wintertime.

largest and busiest airport in Africa
and a gateway for international air
travel to and from the rest of
southern Africa.

It is difficult to know if there is regulation of the term 'ecotourism' as
well as what a foundation/association/company needs to do to fall into
the category of 'eco-travel'. However, there is a non-profit association
that represents the private sector of the "incoming tourism industry in
South Africa "(which is a large group) called the South African Tourism
Services Association (SATSA), they are "dedicated to providing and
maintaining the highest possible standards in the tourism industry
within South Africa." (SATSA, 2007) SATSA is focused on the
accountability, integrity, and quality control of the tourism industry in
South Africa as well as with the companies and associations they are
connected to. In addition to SATSA, the website responsibletravel.com
partnered with The Times, World Travel Market and Geographical
Magazine have established the Responsible Tourism Awards. The goal
of the award is to "recognize individuals, companies and organizations
in the travel industry that are making a significant commitment to the
culture and economies of local communities and are providing a positive
contribution to biodiversity conservation."
The secret of history
IATA (International Air Transport Association) was founded in Havana,
Cuba, in April 1945. It is the prime vehicle for inter-airline cooperation in
promoting safe, reliable, secure and economical air services - for the
benefit of the world's consumers.
The international scheduled air transport industry is now more than 100
times larger than it was in 1945. Few industries can match the dynamism
of that growth, which would have been much less spectacular without
the standards, practices and procedures developed within IATA.
At its founding, IATA had 57 members from 31 nations, mostly in Europe
and North America. Today it has some 230 members from 126 nations in
every part of the globe.
The modern IATA is the successor to the International Air Traffic
Association founded in the Hague in 1919 - the year of the world's first
international scheduled services.
