TRANSFORMER

TRANSFORMER
-is a static device used to transfer
AC electrical energy from the one
circuit to another.
-- works on the principle of mutual
induction
Two coils connected:

Primary
- the coil that is connected to the
primary source of supply.
Secondary
- the coil in which the voltage of
mutual induction is induced and
which “feeds”
energy to the load.
Types of Transformer:
Core type – coils surround a
considerable parts of magnetic circuit.

Shell Type – the magnetic circuit

surrounds the considerable portion of
the windings.
Step down Transformer- when the
primary impressed voltage Vp is
reduced to a lower secondary voltage
Vs.
Step up Transformer- if the voltage is
raised.
Distribution Transformer- when the
transformer is used for distribution
service, when the secondary is
connected directly to the “customer"
load.
Power Transformer- employed high
voltage transmission system by the
public service companies for the
transmission and distribution.
- not directly
contact in actual “customer “ load.
