Viral Disease
OCCURRENCE
 Pakistan and Western India
SYMPTOMS
 Diseased plants become stunted and have
twisted internodes.
 Leaves = small & shows cupping & curling.
 Veins on the lower side of leaf become thick
& shows netted appearence,.
 Small leaflets (enations) also developed on
the main as well as on lateral veins/
 No. of fruiting bodies get reduced.
PATHOGEN
 Cotton leaf curl virus.
 Transmitted by white fly (Bemisica tabaci)
 Not seed borne.
 White fly in larval stage can acquire the virus
& transmits it into adult stage.
 Incubation period = 20-30 days.
MANAGEMENT
 Hybrid LHH144 & desi cotton var, are
resistent.
 Avoid growing of American cotton in &
around citrus orchads & bhindi crop
 In American cotton use 4 Kg of seed/ac & go
on uprooting & destroying the infected plants
up to initiation of fruiting stage.
 Protect the crop again white fly vector at 4-5
leaf stage with spray of
 300ml of Metasystox in 100 L of water/ac.
 Destroy weed hosts
