In the interest of getting accurate information to the public, | wanted to give you more information about the paperwork the
Ethics Commission has received from gubernatorial candidates seeking Maine Clean Election Act funding. A few of the
‘statements in today's story might give the wrong impression to readers. | leave it to your judgment whether a correction is

Yesterday, you received some electronic data maintained by the Commission relating to seed money contributions and
qualifying contributions the Commission has recelved. As you may have understood, the Commission staff would prefer
Not to answer questions about what paperwork we have received from gubernatorial candidates, but as a government
‘agency we are obliged to release such data under the state's Freedom of Access Act.
John Richardson has provided the Commission with documentation of around $43,000 in seed money contributions
from registered Maine voters. The Commission staffs reviewing that documentation to verify that he has met the new
requirement to collect $40,000 in seed money contributions. Also, yesterday the Richardson campaign submitted
‘somewhere around 300 qualifying contributions the campaign received by check and by cash. These are in addition to
the 436 qualifying contributions that the campaign has received online,
Elizabeth Mitchell has provided the Commission with documentation of around $47,000 in seed money contributions.
‘The Commission staff is reviewing the documentation. In addition, the Mitchell campaign has turned into us about 550
4ualifying contributions she has received by check and by money order (in addition to the 1 400 she has received online)
Pat McGowan has not given us documentation relating to seed money. Last week, his campaign attempted to submit
‘somewhere around 500 qualifying contributions it had received by check or cash, but the campaign held onto the
contributions because we requested that it create an electronic list of the contributors. We expect to receive them soon,
‘These are in addition to the 637 qualifying contributions the McGowan campaign has received online.
