What are NGOs?
NGOs means Non Governmental
Organizations. These are non-
profit voluntary groups engaged
in Social welfare works. NGOs
bring up issues and concerns of
the people to the government and
policy makers. In many
jurisdictions these types of
organization are defined as "civil
society organizations" or referred
to by other names.
Indian NGOs
The number of internationally operating NGOs is
estimated at 40,000. National numbers are even
higher. Russia has 277,000 NGOs. India is
estimated to have between 1 million and 2 million
NGOs engaged in different types of works but
having the one same end, that is the prosperity of
India. Some of the important NGOs in India are
India Red Cross Society, Child Relief and You
(CRY), CARE and National Institute of Public
Cooperation and Child Development (NIPCCD)
