Addressed fo the Com- missioner, Pallavapuram Hosur, Thiruthuraipoondi, Kuiithalai, VandavasiKoothancilur and Usilampatti Municipaities. «sup HLS. bith & death registration - custody of bith & death records eg Very often itis being brought to the notice of the Cheit Registrar of births and deaths by the public saying that they are unable to get their birth and death ex- tracts from the Municipalities / local bodies due to the reason that the very old bitth and death fecords are no! available with the Municipality / or locel body con- cemed. Further is stated by the local authorities thal those old records are avail ble with the Sub Registrar of assurances concemed and the publics are asked to ‘approach the Sub Registrar concemed for obtaining their birth and death certifi cotes. In_this connection the Comrnissioners of Municipaiiies are informed that as per Rule 18(3) of the Tarnil Nadu Birth Gnd Death Registration Rules 1977, allthe birth and death registers ore to be transfetred for safe custody fo the Municipal Commissioner of the respective Municipalities” As far as the maintenance of records and safe custody is concemed Commis- sioneris responsible for his Municipatiy for al the years irespective of the years it was given the status of Municipality. ” Hence lrequest you fo call for ail the old records of births and deaths in respect of your Municipality form the Sub Registrar of assurances concemed and keep them under your custody for fulure reference, verification, name registration and for isu- ance of extracts, . Further as per ule 14(2) of the Tamil Nadu Birth and Death Registration Rules 1977 besides the birth and death registrar the Commissioner of the Municipaily is only Ihe officer empowered to issue the extracts of birth and death cerliicatesin respect of his Municipal area. As such the cerlficates issued by Sub Registrar of assurance if any for your area will not be a legal one and it will be construed as Violation of the soid rule 129
