What is the FDA?

a. The FDA is the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA is the official
government agency that is responsible for ensuring that our drug supply is safe
and effective

FDA’s mission is :

- To promote and protect the public health by helping safe and effective products
reach the market in a timely way

- To monitor products for continued safety after they are in use

- To help the public get the accurate, science-based information needed to improve
health.

The FDA is an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services and
consists of nine centers/offices

i. Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER)


ii. Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH
i. Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN)
ii. Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER)
iii. Veterinary Medicine (CVM
iv. National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR)
v. Office of Chief Counsel
vi. Office of the Commissioner (OC)
vii. Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA)
