The negative influence of electronic media in Pakistan

Media plays a massive role on growing any economy especially when it belongs to a third world country
whose achievements are appreciated by all but not necessarily admired by everyone.

The phrase “freedom of expression” is explained by people in their own way and used according to their
need, while from an ethical point of view freedom of expression doesn’t mean to express your ideas or
views in any method at any platform, because we cant debate on “gender harassment” in a high school
convocation is the same manner as we do in an assembly.

In this context the responsibility of electronic media is far more then the print media because the
electronic media have more influence on people. Now day’s print media influence less population
because it is mostly used by only that class of society who love to read but as a source of information
people mostly prefer electronic media because of its convenience, low cost and desirability.

Pakistan is one of those developing nations where is last decade both print and electronic media have
gone through a tremendous growth is all aspects but the ethical and social responsibility factor is much
ignored by the electronic media in Pakistan which should be more vigilant because they represent the
country to a large number of audience globally then print media because the number of people
watching XYZ news channel around the globe is far more then those read Daily XYZ news paper globally.

The way in which the electronic media present the situations and views, give a very negative influence
to the international community about our country. Its not an ethical practice to just get more revenues
you portray the scenario is the most influential way just to attract large audience, which even change
the meaning of the scenario and present a more negative conclusions.

The negative psychological effects of media are seen in terms of media changing the people's outlook of
looking towards life. Media being one of the prominent sources of looking at the outside world has
changed the cultural and moral values of society. A majority of the audiences believe in what is depicted
by the media. Many think all of it as true. Youngsters and children are bound to mix the reel and the real
world and get highly influence by the mass media.

Besides giving a one side view of the story it’s the responsibility of the media to give a unbiased and
transparent view about the situation in order to maintain positive image of our nation, as a gatekeeper
and instrument to disseminate necessary information, and more popularly, as a reflection of cultural
interests and trends should be presented and finally the responsibility lies with every single one of us
not only on print/electronic media.
