On tests & quizzes: most spelling errors of only one letter are worth a half point,
except for verbs, which are marked completely wrong if spelled wrong. Questions in
the language are to be answered in complete sentences.

Attendance If you must be absent, it is your responsibility to get notes,

assignments, etc. You will not be given extra time to turn in assignments. If you
chat in English, do homework, text message, etc., during class, you will be asked to
leave and lose participation points.

Testing policy: Makeup tests/quizzes are discouraged. A maximum of one makeup

quiz/test
1
per semester will be allowed. You must notify the instructor of your absence and
reason in writing (bring a doctor’s note/note from court, etc) immediately upon
missing a quiz or test or you will not be allowed to make it up. You are not
guaranteed a makeup. Makeup tests/quizzes are generally harder than the original!
If you miss the final exam, you will not be allowed to make it up. There will be a
vocabulary/spelling test at the beginning of the class (see schedule). If you are tardy,
you will not be allowed to make up the quiz.

Homework: There will be due dates for Supersite activities for each chapter.
Please be sure to check the syllabus AND the Supersite for those dates. If any
portion of the assignment is copied, or if you use a translator, you will receive a zero
for the whole assignment. Failure to follow any of these directions will result in a
reduction of points for the assignment. Homework may be accepted 1 class period
after its due date for half credit. (check w/ me first) After that, no credit will be given.

**Please identify all assignments, tests, quizzes, etc, with 1 your FULL name, 2 time
of your class, and 3 quiz number or page number, where appropriate.

Extra credit will be offered after mid-term. You must complete at least 85% of your
homework in order to receive extra credit.

Academic honesty: (from the college catalog) St. Clair County Community College
holds high ideals of academic and personal honesty and expects every student to do
likewise. Dishonest acts like cheating, lying, and plagiarism will not be tolerated.
Instances of academic dishonesty will be treated as serious offenses. Students
involved in activities such as cheating and /or plagiarism will be subject to
disciplinary action. (This includes use of any type of translator, whether electronic or
human)
In addition, "working together" on homework is considered cheating and will result in
a zero for the assignment.
Learning a language takes a lot of time and practice! You should study and practice
vocabulary and grammar nightly. You should also read the lessons prior to
class.

Tutoring is available for this class. A schedule will be posted as soon as it is

available. The schedule is also on SC4’s website.Students with special
needs/disabilities should contact Nancy Pecorilli in the Academic
Achievement/Student Learning Center at 989-5555. You will need to provide
documentation to receive services.

Electronic Devices: Phones, iPods, must be off and away. Special exemptions will
be made for emergency situations if requested and explained before class. Cell
phones and beepers should be turned off or set for silent mode during class time.
Laptops are not to be used in class, unless special permission is given by your
instructor. MP3 players are not to be used during class time.
No cell phones or other electronic devices out during tests and quizzes or I will have
to assume you are cheating and give you a zero.
