WORKBOOK 5.

2 NOMBRE __________________________
PRESENT PROGRESSIVE SECCION __________________________
SP 101 SEÑOR OWENS

The -ING in Spanish can be accomplished in several different ways, depending

on whether we want the word that ends this way to be a verb or a noun.
The verb form is known as the progressive participle. The present or past
progressive is determined by the tense of the helping verb “estar” that is with it. It is
formed by dropping the infinitive ending and adding -ando, or -iendo,. Its purpose is to
emphasize an on-going action. Also if an –er or ,-ir stem ends with a vowel the –ing
ending becomes _________________ so long as you have three unstressed, sounded
vowels.

Demonstrate with four examples of your own here:

__________________ ___________________ ____________________ _____________________

The verb form that is created is only the -ing form. “Escribiendo” means
writing, not “I am writing.” To this form you would have to add a conjugated form of
“estar”, depending on the chosen subject. To say “I am writing” you would write “estoy
escribiendo”.

Write the following in Spanish:

1. He is playing.
2. They are skiing.
3. We’re watching television.
