AT&T Navigator v1.8 and AT&T Navigator Global Edition (GE) v1.8 utilize the integration of GPS position
determination technology, the Java™ programming environment, and access to your wireless carrier’s data
network. Supported Research in Motion BlackBerry devices provide both the Java environment and access to the
wireless network. The AT&T Navigator application provides:
• GPS navigation that punctually guides you turn-by-turn to any destination address. If you miss a turn or get
off-track, AT&T Navigator will calculate a new route for you.
• AT&T Navigator GE covers the Continental United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy,
and main countries in China (see “What countries are covered” on page 79 for a complete list of
supported countries).
• Enter one or more destination addresses by keying or speaking directly into the device, entering them on the
AT&T Navigator website, or by pulling your contacts from the BlackBerry Address Book. Optionally, you can
input a remote origin and receive Driving Directions from that origin address to the selected destination
address.
• Audio and visual traffic alerts while driving or viewing maps, as well as traffic rerouting capabilities to
minimize delays on your trip (traffic is only available in the U.S.).
• A Search (Directory) feature that allows you to find businesses or points of interest near your current
location, around a favorite, around an entered address, or around an airport. You can call the business first
to check availability of an item or get a reservation and then navigate to it. You can also save the address for
use later in the day.
• Points-of-Interest search result ads that offer merchant review, deals, and restaurant menus (depends on
availability).
• Maps of the area around your current location, a marked favorite, or an address you enter manually or have
previously entered. You can pan the map (adjust left/right/up/down), and zoom in or out. Maps and points-
of-interest are frequently updated for accuracy, at no additional charge to you.
• The ability to set up alerts for your daily commute and view any traffic incidents on the map of the route (U.S.
only).
• The ability to set Daytime or Nighttime colors for your map or navigation screens. You can also set this to
“Auto” for automatic color adjustment throughout the day.
• The ability to mark the current location as a favorite that can be labeled (currently not available in China).
• A Movies feature to search for movies based on location or theaters (U.S. only).
• A Weather feature to view current weather conditions, as well as a 7-day forecast, for a location that you
choose (U.S. Only).
• The ability to personalize the application by selecting the use of U.S. customary or metric distance units, the
language for audible guidance, the volume and map colors, etc.
AT&T Navigator’s servers support these enhanced services via the carrier’s data network.
NOTE: Certain AT&T Navigator Global Edition features may not be available on all devices and in all countries.
This includes traffic alerts, commute alerts, 3D/2D moving maps during navigation, nighttime navigation colors,
voice-input address entry, weather, compass, certain Points-of-Interest search such as gas prices, and the “avoid
HOV lane” option. AT&T Navigator GE costs an additional $9.99/month. Please contact AT&T Customer Service
(page 82) to upgrade your account to GE.
For details on which features are supported in which regions, see “Supported Features” on page 80.
AT&T and TeleNav will not accept any responsibility whatsoever for accidents resulting from failure to observe
common sense precautions. Your personal judgment, traffic regulations, and common sense must always take
precedence over any driving direction produced by AT&T Navigator.
It is your responsibility as the vehicle operator to keep your eyes on the road and be an alert driver at all times,
ESPECIALLY when the vehicle is moving. The vehicle operator should not be distracted by the application
displays, audible cues, or manually interacting with the controls. When you need to enter data on your device using
the keypad or study the display, please do so while the vehicle is parked, not while in motion. Should your ability to
drive responsibly be decreased, please turn off the device.
If you are using a device mounting kit, make sure that it does not obscure your vision. You may wish to charge the
device while using AT&T Navigator. If so, make sure the charging cable does not interfere with any of the vehicle
controls.
The vehicle operator’s personal judgment, traffic regulations, and common sense must always take precedence
over the instructions provided by AT&T Navigator.
It is your responsibility as the vehicle operator to drive safely, observe all traffic rules, and above all use your own
personal judgment while driving. If you feel that a route suggested by the navigation software instructs you to
perform an unsafe or illegal maneuver, places you in an unsafe situation, or routes you into an area which you
consider unsafe, do not follow the instructions.
The AT&T Navigator application that you install on your device requires a means of accessing the public Internet,
which is typically provided by your carrier’s data network.
The AT&T Navigator application communicates with the AT&T Navigator servers to get routing, maps, and points of
interest via your carrier’s data network. You do not need to purchase additional data services if you already have a

Browser Method
TeleNav can be downloaded directly onto your BlackBerry using its Internet Browser.
Network Access
AT&T Navigator uses the public Internet to access its servers for mapping, routing, and search services from your
device. If you are not using your BlackBerry for e-mail services, you will still need to add an individual BlackBerry e-
mail plan to have access to data services. There are three different network settings for you to select from. Wait 90
seconds after turning on your BlackBerry to allow these services options to register. These access methods are
automatically determined by AT&T Navigator when it launches, but you can change the settings from within the
AT&T Navigator Preferences menu.
• When using GPS, make sure you are outside with a clear view of the sky and no buildings or trees are in the
way.
• Remain stationary to acquire the initial GPS signal before you start your journey.
• The time to acquire the first GPS signal of the day may take up to 2-3 minutes, so please be patient.
• Keeping your device powered on will help make getting subsequent GPS signals much faster during that
same day.
6. AT&T Maps
AT&T Maps is a free application that comes with AT&T Navigator. AT&T
Maps offers you static, turn-by-turn directions, a business finder, and the
ability to upgrade to the full AT&T Navigator application.
• Zoom In/Out – Zoom the map in and out. You can also press the Q
and P keys, respectively.
TeleNav Maps offers you static driving directions to your chosen location.

5. After starting AT&T Navigator, the splash screen will appear for a few
seconds.
7. The first time you use AT&T Navigator, you must grant AT&T
Navigator access to the network so it can authenticate your account,
fetch maps, get navigation routes, and search for businesses. Click
Ok on the “Please Read” screen.
11. You will be taken back to the “Please Read” screen. Click Ok to
continue to Registration.
12. The AT&T Navigator Warning screen appears. If you agree to the
terms, choose Go to continue.

tour. If you decide to skip the tour now, you can always launch it in
Share & More >> Product Tour.
14. During your first use of AT&T Navigator, the device will download the
audible and graphical content needed to build the displays and
produce audible messages. The alert screen similar to that shown on
the right advises you that this is taking place.
When AT&T Navigator is using data service to contact the AT&T Navigator
servers, it will present a message such as:
a) Reading GPS, b) Waiting, c) Sending, d) Receiving, e) Logging in,
f) Personalizing, g) Loading, and h) Storing.
NOTE: If, after you press the trackball, the AT&T Navigator application indicates that it cannot reach the AT&T
Navigator servers, the most likely reason is that your carrier data service plan is not yet active. You may need to
contact AT&T Customer Service at 1-800-331-0500 (or dial 611 from your handset) to extend your service
agreement. You will not be able to progress beyond this point until your account is returned to current status. You
may also see an important message from AT&T regarding upgrades, scheduled downtime, pending account
expiration, etc.
When the device reaches the AT&T Navigator servers with a valid and active phone number and PIN, the device
will be registered to use AT&T Navigator and will not present any of the above screens except the splash and
Warning screens in the future. Visiting http://navpreplan.com and changing the PIN will require you to repeat the
above registration process.

This option appears if you have previously interrupted a navigation
session. Your destination and route settings are saved if you exit
navigation while on a route so that you may easily resume the trip later.
The settings for a paused trip will clear if you begin a new route.
Your Favorites list can grow to an unlimited length. If your Favorites list
gets very large, it may be easier to use the Find function to find your
desired Favorite. To use the Find function, enter one or more
alphanumeric characters in the Find field. As you type, the closest
match(es) will appear at the top of the list.
• Sync with Website – Pull in addresses that you saved in the AT&T Navigator website at
http://navpreplan.com.
• Received Addresses – This folder contains addresses that other AT&T Navigator users may have sent you.
You can share addresses under the Share & More menu (see page 53).
• Folder Icons – These are the Favorite categories that you have created. These folders contain the Favorites
that you have saved to those categories.
• Heart Icons – These are the individual Favorites that you have saved.
Highlight a Favorites and press the Menu key for the following options.
Options are based on what information is available for a selected address,
so not all of the options below may be present.
• Viewed as a map.
Your Recent places list can grow to an unlimited length. If you have a large Recent Places list, it may be easier to
use the Find function to find your desired Recent Place. To use the Find function, enter one or more alphanumeric
characters in the Find text box. As you type, the closest match(es) will appear at the top of the list.
1. You can press the Menu key on the Recent Places screen for
the following options:
2. Type in a street address. Partial entry (5 or more letters) is okay for the street name. You can also leave the
Address field blank and just type in a city and state or zip code to use the address of the city’s center. As you
enter characters, nearby cities or addresses that you have recently visited will be automatically suggested.
To save time, you can select the suggestions before you finish typing.
NOTE: The fields of the address entry screen may vary, depending on what region you are in. The screens below
show Address Entry for the United States compared to Canada. For the China region (Global Edition), Address
Input is only available in Shanghai (intersections, businesses, and airports can be used as destinations instead).
• Clicking the Menu key will call up a menu with more options you
can choose from. For example, you can choose to “Speak In
Address” instead of typing. See page 25 for more information on
dictating an address.
• If you set your Speech Input method in the Share & More >>
Preferences area to “Call In,” AT&T Navigator will place a call
to the Voice Address Input System. To use this system, follow
the voice prompts to dictate an address. When you hang up
the call, you will be directed back to the screen you were on.
The new address can be found in your Recent Places list.
• If you set your Speech Input method in the Share & More >>
Preferences area to “Speak In Directly,” you can dictate your
address from within AT&T Navigator as described below:
2. Follow the voice prompts to dictate your address. The prompts will
vary, depending on the menu from which you accessed the
“Speak It” option.
TIP: Hold down the Space key and wait for the beep. Then speak clearly
into your device. Release the Space key after you are finished talking.
NOTE: If you are using the “Call In” method and have never placed a call on your new device, the “Speak It”
feature may not work. To resolve this issue, simply place a call from the device’s Applications menu. When
prompted, type in your home area code and continue with the call. The “Call in Address” feature will now work after
you re-launch AT&T Navigator.
The “Speak It” feature for address entry is currently only available in North America (English only).
1. Press the “$” (Speaker) button on your BlackBerry device from any of the Speak It screens.
2. The BlackBerry will automatically search for any paired Bluetooth headsets.
3. Hold down the headset button while talking instead of the Space key on the BlackBerry device.
4. Press “$” (Speaker) again to redirect the audio through the BlackBerry’s speaker.
AT&T Navigator prompt> Thank you for calling TeleNav! Please say the 5 digit ZIP, or the city and state.
For a Canadian address say the city and province.
AT&T Navigator prompt> I heard Arlington, Texas. Say GO BACK if this is not correct. <pause> Say the
street including both the number and name, like 422 Main Street. <pause> It can also be a highway.
AT&T Navigator prompt> I heard 1620 Oak Street. Say GO BACK if this is not correct. <pause> Great, your
destination is saved in you recent stop list: 1620 Oak Street, Arlington, Texas 75210 You can hang up now
and launch TeleNav on your device or stay on the line to start over for another destination.
The Voice Address Input System may ask you for an account number and PIN if caller ID is not working. Simply
dictate the numbers as prompted, or key in your mobile phone number followed by pressing “#” and your AT&T
Navigator PIN followed by pressing “#.“
The recognition system may reply back with an incorrectly recognized input. When this happens, simply say, “Go
Back” and repeat the data entry. The voice system may advise you that a street number is out of range and
provide the proper range of numbers for you to use. Provide a number that is within the range or nearest the end of
the range that you are sure is valid. If you say “Intersection” and then provide a crossing street name, the voice
system may advise you that the streets you provided do not actually cross and allow you to change either street
name or both street names. Select the name you want to change by saying it, and then provide the correct name.
2. Type in an intersection. You can also leave the Street fields blank
and just type in a city and state or zip code to use the address of
the city’s center. As you enter characters, nearby cities or
intersections that you have recently visited will be automatically
suggested. To save time, you can select the suggestions before
you finish typing.
NOTE: Clicking the Menu key will call up a menu with more options you
can choose from. For example, you can choose to “Speak In
Intersection” instead of typing. See page 25 for more information on
dictating an address.
Intersection – Speaking In
1. On the Drive To menu, highlight Intersection and click the trackball
to call up the menu. Then choose Speak It. See “Address –
Calling In” on page 25 for more details on this feature.
1. On the Drive To menu, highlight City and click the trackball to call
up the menu. Then choose “Type It.”
NOTE: Clicking the Menu key will call up a menu with more options you
can choose from. For example, you can choose to “Speak In City” instead
of typing. See page 25 for more information on dictating an address.
4. AT&T Navigator checks to see if the city that you entered can be
found. AT&T Navigator prompts you to modify the name of the city
if it cannot to be found in the mapping database.
Business
AT&T Navigator offers a full national business directory. Search by typing
in a keyword or by choosing a category in the extensive directory.
In the Category directory, you can find the addresses and phone numbers
of businesses such as restaurants, hotels, and gas stations.
Once you find what you are looking for, click the trackball to get
navigation directions to the business. The search result is automatically
saved to your Recent places list.
NOTE: Clicking the Menu key will call up a menu with more options you
can choose from. For example, you can choose to “Speak In Search”
instead of typing. See page 25 for more information on dictating an
address.
See the Search Menu section on page 40 for more details on this feature.
NOTE: Clicking the Menu key will call up a menu with more options you
can choose from. For example, you can choose to “Speak In Airport”
instead of typing. See page 25 for more information on dictating an
address.
Contact
Quickly find addresses that you have saved in your BlackBerry Address
Book. If you have a large Address Book, it may be easier to use the Find
function to find your desired address. To use the Find function, enter a
First or Last name of a contact in the Find text box. As you type, the
closest match(es) will appear at the top of the list.
After you select a Drive To location, the Going To pop-up appears. Click
the Edit Route button before the Getting Route progress bar reaches
100% to be taken to the Trip Confirmation screen, where you can highlight
a field and click the trackball to edit.
NOTE: You can also make adjustments to your route in Share & More
menu >> Preferences.
Edit Origin
Highlight the Origin field on the Trip Confirmation screen and click the
trackball to select a new starting point for the trip. This menu is almost
identical to the Drive To menu.
Edit Destination
Highlight the Destination field on the Trip Confirmation screen and click the
trackball to select a new ending point for the trip.
Edit Preferences
Highlight the Preferences field on the Trip Confirmation screen and click
the trackball to edit your route style:
• Fastest – This default Route Style finds the fastest driving route.
• Shortest – This Route Style may or may not take more time to
drive but it shows you the shortest distance.
NOTE: The “Pedestrian” route style may make your walking route easier, for example by allowing you to take
advantage of going the wrong way down one way streets. As always, use your common sense to determine the
safety of any route.
NOTE: This screen does not appear if you selected “Pedestrian” as your
Route Style.
If you are not moving, AT&T Navigator may not know your direction of
travel, so the first few driving directions may be incorrect since AT&T
Navigator may initially make an incorrect assumption. However, once you
start moving, AT&T Navigator learns your direction of travel and provides
an updated set of driving directions.
TIP: Click the Space key at any time on the navigation screen to replay the
audio.
The lead times for the audible guidance tones are increased proportionally to your driving speed. This allows more
time for changing lanes before a turn if you are driving at highway speeds as opposed to driving more slowly on
local streets. A Preference setting determines whether street names are included in the messages or not. Enabling
street names increases packet data usage.
Audio Replay
If you wish to hear an updated informational message for the current route segment, simply press the Space key.
Miss a Turn?
Whenever you miss a turn, turn the wrong way, turn too early or too late, or otherwise get off the planned route to
your destination, the AT&T Navigator automatically creates a new route to your desired destination, audibly
announce, “Rerouting,” and give you a new set of instructions.
If you realize you have missed a turn or have otherwise gotten off the route, just keeping driving. AT&T Navigator
detects your current location and recalculates a new set of driving directions to get you back on track.
It may take approximately 15 to 30 seconds for AT&T Navigator to update your route. If during this process you
make additional deviations from your current route, AT&T Navigator may have to contact its servers for another
new route.
Since AT&T Navigator requires access your carrier’s network, if you are off route and outside of the carrier’s
coverage area, you must return to your carrier’s coverage area in order for AT&T Navigator to recalculate your
route.
Navigation Views
The default navigation view is 3D moving maps, but you may wish to use
the 2D Map instead. You can change the default navigation view in Share
& More >> Preferences >> Navigation (see page 65 for more information).
In the navigation screen, press the Menu key or the trackball to select from
the menu as shown in the illustration to the right.
When you arrive at your destination, use Menu to return to the AT&T
Navigator Main Menu.
Stop Navigating
This option exits the current navigation session (same as pressing the
Escape key). Simply choose OK on the pop-up confirmation. Though you
exit navigation, your route will be “remembered,” and you can resume
navigation anytime from the Drive To menu.
Recalculate Route
Use this option to refresh the calculation to your destination, for example, if
you have selected the “Avoid Traffic Delays” routing option and you want
to proactively refresh your route to optimize for traffic.
You can also use “Recalculate Route” if during a navigation session you
would like to edit your Route Style. Remember to pull over safely before
interacting with the device. Then click the No, Edit Style button on the
Recalculate pop-up to be taken to the Select Route Style screen (see “Edit
Preferences” on page 30).
This view allows you to see the next two consecutive turns in your
navigation route.
The name of the street you are currently on is displayed at the bottom of
the screen. About 2 minutes before the next turn, the street name changes
to the one you will turn onto.
2D Moving Map
NOTE: You can set either 2D Map or 3D Map view as your default in the
Share & More >> Preferences >> Navigation menu (see page 65).
The 2D view allows you to see how the road network is organized, similar
to the perspective of a cartographer looking down on a map.
The name of the street you are currently on is displayed at the bottom of
the screen. About 2 minutes before the next turn, the street name
changes to the one you will turn onto.
When you are viewing moving maps during navigation and have set Traffic
Alerts to “On” in Share & More >> Preferences, a Traffic Alert icon will
appear at the bottom-right corner of the map if there is an accident less
than 15 miles ahead of your current route. You will see the distance along
the route until the accident and hear an audio warning.
3D Moving Map
This view allows you to see how the road ahead is organized, similar to the
perspective of a bird flying above the route. You can see the route to your
destination as a blue overlay on one of the roads with white triangles
leading you in the correct direction. Orange arrows mark any upcoming
turns.
The name of the street you are currently on is displayed at the bottom of
the screen. About two minutes before the next turn, the street name
changes to the one you will turn onto. If you set this option in Preferences
>> Navigation >> Moving Maps to “3D Maps with 2D View at Turns,” the
3D Map will change to 2D view at a turn to help you better visualize the
turn.

Color Severity
Yellow Only Minor incidents
Orange At least one Major incident,
no severe incidents
• Delay – Total time delay caused by traffic conditions, or the sum of delays on each segment.
NOTE: This is not the distance from the origin but the length of each road segment.
NOTE: “N/A” is displayed for segments without traffic flow information (usually local streets) or segments farther
than 200 miles away. The traffic feature is currently only available for North America.
If you click on an incident line, you can view the details. Below is an
explanation of what you will see on the Traffic Detail screen:

While you are in a navigation session, you can choose to manually re-
route to avoid traffic congestion.
2. Highlight one of the lines with slow traffic and click the Menu key
for more options:
• Click the Escape key to cancel and go back to the Traffic Summary
screen.
When you hear an audio warning about a traffic incident during your
navigation session, you can re-route to avoid congestion ahead.
2. Press “0” on the device. The “Getting New Route” progress bar
appears, and the application automatically calculates a route to
avoid all incidents within a 15-mile range. When you hear the
audio prompt, “New Route,” the new route will be shown on your
navigation session. The traffic alert icon will disappear from the
screen.
The Search menu provides you with a few different ways to find the
addresses and phone numbers of businesses such as restaurants,
hotels, and gas stations. You can also find WiFi spots for Internet
access and parking lots or garages.
Once you find what you are looking for, you can get audible and visual
driving or walking directions, view a map of the location, or save the
location to your Favorites list.
You can Speak In the search by choosing the “Speak It” option from the
Search menu.
Depending on which voice entry method you set up in Share & More >>
Preferences, follow the on-screen prompts to dictate your search.

To use the “Type It” Search feature, do the following steps:
2. In the Category screen, you can narrow down your search by selecting from the appropriate category.
Click on the plus (+) signs to expand a category and the minus (-) sign to collapse it. The “Any” choice
means any business in that particular category.
NOTE: The points-of-interest in the Category screen may differ, depending on what world region you are in. Not all
of the categories may be available.
5. Click the trackball to call up the menu and choose from the
following options. Depending on availability, not all of the
options may be available.
NOTE: If a location is already part of your Favorites, you will not see the “Save to Favorites” option.
• Map It – View a map of the area surrounding the business address (See “Map Results” on page
45).
• Share Address – Share the address with contacts from your BlackBerry Address Book or with
recipients whose phone number you provide (see “Share Address” on page 53).
• View Reviews – Read reviews others have written about the business (see “Read Reviews” on
• Rate This – Submit your own rating for the business (see “Submit your Own Rating” on page 49).
Sponsored Results
On the Search screen, you can choose to either search for the business
near your current location or near another location that you specify.
Sorting Options
Map Results
You can view your search results plotted on a map. From the Map Results screen, you can also click on a
corresponding number to view more details about a particular point of interest.
Points of interests are ordered based on how they were sorted on the
Search Results page. If sorted by distance, the #1 point of interest is the
one closest to the search location. If sorted by rating, the #1 point of
interest is the one with the highest rating.
If you are viewing the Map Results screen from the Address Details
screen, the search result number for that point of interest is highlighted
by default. For example, if you are looking at the third search result and
choose “Map It” from the menu, the third result appears in the center of
the page.
You can also press the “Q” and “P” keys to zoom in and out or use the
trackball to pan the map. Zooming out may allow you to view more
results on the page.
This is the default sorting option and is a combination of closest distance and highest rating. “Sort by Relevance” is
not valid for “Gas by Price” searches.
Sort by Distance
Sort the businesses in your Search Results screen by order of distance to your chosen location.
Sort by Popularity
3. The Most Popular search results screen displays items that are
frequently given higher star ratings. By default, results are sorted
by the number of points they have received (popularity). Items
with no points or negative points are not displayed.
4. NOTE: Highlight an item in the list to view its distance from the
search point’s origin and the average number of stars it received.
5. In the Search menu, you can select a search location. Click the
Search button to get results.
Read Reviews
2. In the Details screen, press the Menu key or the trackball and
choose “View Reviews.”
NOTE: This option is not available if the business currently does not
have any reviews written yet.
2. In the Details screen, press the Menu key or the trackball and
choose “Rate This.”
NOTE: If you click on the “Rate This” option for a location that you have
already rated, the original rating is displayed by default. If you submit a
modified rating, the old rating is excluded from the average and
replaced with the new rating, and the number of reviews remains the
same.
NOTE: For regions that do not support traffic, the “Maps & Traffic” option is called “Maps.”
There are several ways in which you can view a map and traffic information:
1. From the Maps & Traffic option in the AT&T Navigator Main Menu. A map of your last known location is
automatically displayed when you choose this option. To view a map of a different area, choose Menu >>
Get New Map.
2. From the “Map It” option for Favorites and Recent Places in the Drive To menu.
For example, from the AT&T Navigator Main Menu, select Drive To >> My Favorites >> Menu key >> Map It.
3. From the “Map It” option for any location that you have found using the Directory.
For example, from the AT&T Navigator Main Menu, select Directory. Search the category for your desired
location and then select the Map It option in the menu for the location that you found.
• Get New Map – Get a map for a location that you choose.
2. The map of your last known location appears. By default traffic will
be shown on this page.
NOTE: You can zoom in or out using the “Q” and “P” keys. Zoom
levels range from 1 (closest) to 9 (farthest). Use the trackball to pan
the map. When you zoom or pan, there may be brief activity to fetch
the updated map.
The Share & More menu gives you options for setting your preferences and other features as described in the
following sections.
1. Select Share & More from the AT&T Navigator Main Menu.
2. On the Share & More screen, choose “Share Address.” Then fill in
the following fields:
• Send To – Highlight this field and click the trackball. You can
select contacts with whom to share the address from your
BlackBerry Address Book or provide up to 10 recipients’ phone
numbers.
• Label – This field is optional. Give the address a name for easier
identification, such as “My Home.”
3. Click the Send Now button when you are finished. The selected
recipients will receive a text message with the shared address.
My Stuff
The My Stuff menu in Share & More includes the following (explained in detail below):
My Favorites
You can view your Favorites or create new ones in this screen.
• Call – Call the business (if there is a phone number listed with the
Favorite).
• Rate This – If there is a “Rate This” icon next to the Favorite, you
can submit your rating for this location.
2. Click Menu and choose Edit. The Edit Favorite screen appears.
4. On the Categories screen, check the category folder in the list to add
the location to the folder. You may select as many categories as you
would like.
5. Click the Menu >> Done. You will be taken back to the Edit Favorite
screen.
NOTE: You can also use the “Find” function to quickly locate categories if
you have a long list.
2. Click Menu and choose Edit. The Edit Favorite screen appears.
You can delete or rename a category that you have created in My Favorites (the default “Received Addresses”
category, which stores addresses other users may have shared with you, cannot be deleted or renamed).
2. Highlight the category that you want to rename or delete. Then press
Menu >> Rename or Menu >> Delete.
• Category & Favorites – Delete the category and all favorites in it.
This deletes the favorites in this category only. If a favorite is also
saved under a different category, this action does not delete it there.
Recent Places
You can manage your Recent Places in this screen. Highlight a Recent
Place and click Menu for the following options:
• Call – Call the business (if there is a phone number listed with
the Favorite).
You can set up traffic alerts (20 maximum) for frequent commutes. Get a
text message or an email that gives you traffic information and estimated
delay time for the route that your specify. You can also sync your
Commute Alerts with the AT&T Navigator website at
http://navpreplan.com.
2. A list of the alerts you created are displayed in the order they were
created. Highlight an alert and click the Menu key for additional
options:
• Turn Off Alert – Save the alert in the list, but turn notification off.
This option only appears if notifications were enabled with the
alert.
• Create Copy – Create another copy of the alert (useful for when
you would like to create a similar alert and do not want to re-type
all the information).
1. Go to Share & More >> My Stuff >> Commute Alerts and choose
“Create New Commute Alert.”
3. Click the Save button at the bottom of the Commute Alert setup
page when you are finished.
All the addresses you have shared are listed on this screen. The most
recently shared address is at the top of the list.

HINT: In the movie details screen, click Menu for additional options to
Drive To, Map, or Call the theater. You can also change the date of your
search or start a new search.
Check the weather conditions for your current location or for another location that you select. You can also see the
extended weekly forecast.
To record your current location as a Favorite and mark it for future use, do the following:
2. The Create Favorite screen appears. Fill out the following information:
• Address – Your current location is listed by default. Click the trackball to select a different address.
• Category – Manage your locations by saving them in categories (see “Category” on page 55).
• Label – The default label is based on the current date. You can replace it with a label that accurately
describes your current location, like “Work”, “Amy’s School”, etc. This label will appear in your Favorites list.
Refer a Friend
Tell your friends about AT&T Navigator by sending them an invitation via text message to sign up. When your
friends use AT&T Navigator, it is easier for you to share addresses.
3. Select contacts from your BlackBerry Address Book, or enter your friends’ phone numbers (up to 10).
Preferences
You can set personal preferences in the Preferences menu. Click the Menu key on each line to choose from the
options available for that particular feature. After you select your new preference, choose Save.
In Share & More >> Preferences >> General, you can edit the following:
• Email – Edit your email here. Your email address is used to send
important messages about your AT&T Navigator account, as well
as any commute alert emails you have created.
NOTE: You must confirm your email before it can be used for
Commute Alerts or Feedback Confirmation.
• Tips - Tips prompt you with hints or cautions about using various
menu options. To clear a Tip from the screen, click the OK
button. Choose “Always On” or “Always Off.”
• Connection – Normally, you will not adjust this setting. If you are using your BlackBerry for corporate e-mail
via a BlackBerry Exchange Server (BES), then you should consult your IT department BES administrator
about allowing you to use Mobile Data Service (MDS) as a means to access the Internet. Your administrator
will need to enable MDS on your BlackBerry for this method to work.
• GPS Source – This option is for devices requiring an external Bluetooth GPS Receiver for navigation
options. If you have a BlackBerry on the AT&T plan, this option does to apply to you unless you would like to
use an external receiver with your device.
• Exit after (minutes) – Choose Never, 5, 10, 20, or 30 minutes to automatically exit AT&T Navigator if it has
been idle for that long.
• Initial Volume – Choose from Very Soft, Soft, Normal, Loud, or Very Loud. You can adjust the volume while
you are using AT&T Navigator, but this preference controls the initial volume.
• Map Colors – Choose from Daytime, Nighttime, or Auto. Nighttime colors have greater contrast to let you
better see the navigation screen in the dark. Choose “Auto” to have the navigation maps switch to Daytime
colors at 6:00AM and to Nighttime colors at 7:00PM.
In Share & More >> Preferences >> Navigation, you can edit the
following:
• Backlight – Choose whether the BlackBerry’s backlight should be On, Off, or At Turn. The “At Turn” option
turns the backlight on when a turn is approaching. This can save battery life.
• Traffic Alerts – On or Off. If this feature is on, audio and visual traffic alerts will appear on the 2D or 3D
Moving Maps screen if there is a traffic incident on the route ahead.
• Roaming Alerts – On or Off. If this feature is on, you will get an alert when you travel to a new region.
Navigation Audio
In Share & More >> Preferences >> Navigation Audio, you can edit the
following:
• Guide Tones – You can purchase a variety of guide tones so your audio prompts will be announced in the
selected voice. When you click this option, you will see a list of available Guide Tones. Those you have not
yet purchased are grayed out, but you can highlight them and click the Space key to hear a preview. It is
recommended to set the Audio Options to “Instructions Only” when using a purchased guide tone. To
purchase a Guide Tone, highlight the one you want and click the trackball. You will see a pop-up asking if
you would like to learn more about purchasing guide tones. Click “Yes” in this pop-up.
In Share & More >> Preferences >> Speech Input, you can edit the
following:
• Address Input – Choose Always Ask, Always Speak In, or Always Type In. The “Always Ask” option
presents a menu with the options “Speak In” or “Type In” every time to choose to enter an address for
navigation.
• Search Input – Choose Always Ask, Always Speak In, or Always Type In. The “Always Ask” option presents
a menu with the options “Speak In” or “Type In” every time to start a POI search.
• Convenience Key – Choose Speak In Search or Nothing. This preference allows you to program the
convenience key on the left- or right-hand side of the device to launch AT&T Navigator. You will be taken
directly to the Speak In Point-of-Interest Search flow so that you can quickly find nearby points of interest. To
make AT&T Navigator’s Speak In option a Convenience Key, you must do the following:
1. In AT&T Navigator, change the Convenience Key option to “Speak In Search” and save the changes.
2. Exit to the BlackBerry Main Menu and click “Options” (the wrench icon).
4. Scroll down to the section “Convenience Key Opens” and click the trackball. Then set this option to “Nothing.”
This menu option shows the exact version of AT&T Navigator that is
on your device. Knowing the exact version of your software may be
helpful if you ever have to call AT&T Navigator Technical Support.

AT&T Navigator.
After your AT&T Navigator subscription has ended, you will still have
access to AT&T Maps. This free application allows you access to
limited features.
NOTE: The “Cancel from Device” option is not valid for day-pass
users.
These Diagnostic Tools can help you troubleshoot your device, in the
event that you may need to contact Customer Support. You may be
asked to provide some of the information that you find on this screen.
You can refresh the data at any time my choosing Menu >> Refresh.
This is useful for when you have lost GPS data and need to refresh your
GPS location.
You can Call In to a location that you have found in a Search such as
a restaurant, a hotel, or a store. You can also select the Speak It
option with the Speech Input preference set to Call It in certain
menus to speak in an address instead of typing it.
If you ignore the call, AT&T Navigator resumes and continues with
the function that you were using before the call came in.
If you have not yet set your Navigation Audio Preferences in Share & More and are on a navigation screen when
you receive a call, you will not hear any navigation prompts during the phone call, but the prompts will be resumed
after you hang up. To hear navigation prompts while on a call, go to the “Navigation Audio” Preferences in Share &
More and change the “During Phone Call” preference to “Play.”
NOTE: When AT&T Navigator briefly uses the data network, incoming calls may be blocked. When you are on an
incoming call, AT&T Navigator is still running and will periodically collect a GPS fix from the internal GPS receiver.
When this fix is taken, there may be a very brief loss of intelligibility on the received audio from the caller.
• Share Address – Share the Contact’s address with other Contacts from your BlackBerry Address Book or
from recipients whose phone numbers you provide.
When incoming calls are blocked due to AT&T Navigator’s use of your carrier’s data network, phone calls go to
your voice mail if you have a voice mail service available.
4. Enter your current PIN number and your new PIN number.
5. Click Save.
NOTE: You can find your current PIN number by selecting Share & More >> About >> Your PIN Number:
1. When you are on the AT&T Navigator Main Menu, press the
Escape key on the BlackBerry.
AT&T Navigator can be removed from your BlackBerry quickly right from the device. Follow these steps to remove
AT&T Navigator from your BlackBerry.
NOTE: You should always remove AT&T Navigator before completing a reinstall of the AT&T Navigator
application.
1. In the BlackBerry Main Menu, go to Options (depending on your hardware, you may need to first enter
Settings).
2. In the Options screen, choose “Applications” (depending on your hardware, you may need to first enter
“Advanced Options”).
You can also log in to the AT&T Pre-Planning website (http://navpreplan.com) to use features such as:
• Route planning for a trip by entering the starting and destination addresses (this does not update information
on your device).
• Add an address and save it to the My Favorites list on your device. The next time you launch the AT&T
Navigator application on your device, the new address will appear in your My Favorites and Recent Places
lists.
NOTE: Favorites created on the website will only show up in your My Favorites list on the device after you
click the “Refresh” option on the Favorites page within AT&T Navigator.
• Manage addresses in your My Favorites and Recent Places lists (both of which update information on your
device). These lists can grow to an unlimited length. You can also delete addresses you no longer need.
• Manage an independent Web address book (saved to your Web address book only, not saved to your
device).
• Update your personal information including your home and work addresses and your email address.
If you need to migrate your AT&T Navigator account to a different phone number, please call AT&T Navigator
Customer Support at 1-800-331-0500. For security reasons, you cannot perform this change unassisted.
Account cancelled
Your AT&T Navigator account has been cancelled. Contact AT&T Customer Support at 1-800-331-0500 (or dial
611 from your handset).
You do not have a valid AT&T Navigator account. Contact AT&T Customer Support at 1-800-331-0500 (or dial 611
from your handset).
Move to an area where your device has a clearer view of the sky and can still connect with your device. Please
note that some car windshields that have heat-reflective coatings may reduce the quality of the GPS signal. Your
device should announce when you have adequate GPS signal again.
Invalid login
Your account number is your 10-digit mobile phone number beginning with area code. Your PIN is a 4-digit
number. Your PIN can be accessed from the Contact option in the AT&T Navigator Tools/Extras menu.
If for some reason you cannot access your PIN, contact AT&T Customer Support at 1-800-331-0500 (or dial 611
from your handset).
The GPS will not work if the device’s battery charge level is below about 15%. Starting with a freshly charged
standard battery, we have used AT&T Navigator for around 4 hours before it became necessary to connect the
charging cable. If you get a low battery warning, connect a charging cable as soon as possible. In some cases, you
may need to wait a while for the battery to become sufficiently charged so that the GPS receiver will work.
You must provide a four digit personal identification number (PIN) to log into AT&T Navigator.
If the carrier network signal is weak, move to an area where reception is better and try the function that requires
network access again.
AT&T Navigator is having technical problems with the specific request that you made. This can be due to an
address that it cannot find, or mapping data that does not allow routing from where you are to where you want to
go. In this case, try to use a nearby address.
If you get an advisory message that AT&T Navigator is not available, exit the application and then re-launch it. If the
problem recurs, it may be due to a temporary server outage.
AT&T Navigator could not generate a route between the two endpoints of the route. This may be a temporary error
if you have a weak GPS signal when establishing the origin, but may be due to errors in the map data in the area
around the destination.
Unable to login
Someone may be fraudulently using your account. You will need to change your PIN (see page 72) and attempt to
log in again.
You may see this message for several different reasons: a) your data plan is not active, b) your WIX services are
not enabled, c) you are outside of coverage, d) the data network is currently experiencing difficulties, or
e) the AT&T Navigator server is not acknowledging your device’s attempt to communicate.
Call AT&T Navigator Customer Support at 1-800-331-0500 (or dial 611 from your handset).
You do not have a valid AT&T Navigator or AT&T Navigator Global Edition account. Order AT&T Navigator or
AT&T Navigator Global Edition by calling AT&T Navigator Customer Support at 1-800-331-0500 (or dial 611 from
your handset).
If you see the above error during the installation and login process, most likely your BlackBerry needs to be
configured to allow the TeleNav GPS Navigator application to use the data network. Please follow these simple
steps from the BlackBerry home screen:
1. Go to Settings.
2. Select Options.
4. Select Applications.
5. Once the applications list has been populated, highlight AT&T Navigator and press the BlackBerry
Menu button.
6. Set the application settings for “Connections”, “Interactions” and “User Data” to “Allow” and save
your changes.
19. FAQs
The data plan allows you to access nationwide routes, maps, and Directory content from the AT&T Navigator
servers using the data communication features of your device. These services are different from your cellular
airtime. To order a data plan from AT&T, please contact their customer support directly:
How long after I apply for the data service until I can use my AT&T Navigator application?
Generally, it takes until the following business morning before the data services are fully provisioned. If you already
have data services, it should be no more than 4 hours before an added AT&T Navigator plan is active.
AT&T Navigator uses data to provide its navigation functions. Using data does not use any of your voice minutes.
However, calling the Voice Address Input System does use about 75 seconds per address entered. The Voice Call
feature internal to the AT&T Navigator application also uses voice minutes.
How do I increase or decrease the voice prompt volume and control the backlighting?
The backlight and speaker volume levels can be controlled from within AT&T Navigator’s Share & More >>
Preferences >> Navigation menu. Speaker volume can also be controlled with the volume buttons on the right-
hand side of the device. If the speaker volume is set to at least mid-range and you are still not receiving audio
prompts, verify that your device profile is not set to vibrate or quiet. To change your profile settings, highlight the
Profiles icon on the BlackBerry Main Menu (it looks like a loudspeaker) and press the trackball.
Why don’t I hear audio navigation prompts when I am using a Bluetooth headset?
If you are using a Bluetooth headset, be sure to click the “$” (Speaker) key on the device while in navigation mode
so that you will be able to hear the audio prompts. A Bluetooth symbol will be shown in the upper-left corner of the
screen if you have redirected the audio through a Bluetooth headset.
If you have never placed a call on your new device, the “Call in Address” feature may not work. To resolve this
issue, simply place a call from the device’s Applications menu. When prompted, type in your home area code and
continue with the call. The “Call in Address” feature will now work after you re-launch AT&T Navigator.
GPS accuracy can range from 20m (approx. 65 ft) to 100m (approx. 328 ft). Most of the time, the GPS is accurate
to less than 50 meters (approx. 164 ft).
The GPS requires an open, clear view of the sky. Buildings, covered parking areas, tunnels, and dense foliage can
cause the GPS receiver to be unable to locate a GPS satellite or may cause extended initialization time (time to first
GPS fix).
If you are parked in a covered parking lot or near a tall building, it is recommended that you move into an open area
and then begin to use the AT&T Navigator service.
Why does the GPS not work near buildings and other tall objects?
The GPS uses signals from satellites so it needs a clear view of the sky. Tall buildings and other objects that block
the GPS receiver’s view to the sky may make it impossible to determine your location. Sometimes the satellites are
not overhead but near the horizon; in these cases, the GPS receiver in your device must have a clear view of the
horizon.
The AT&T Navigator application on your device alerts you if you do not have a valid GPS signal. If this happens,
move to an area where there is a clear view of the sky so the receiver can hear the GPS signals from space.
What happens if I’m using AT&T Navigator for driving directions and I lose the GPS signal while driving
across a bridge or through a tunnel or lose the GPS signal for some other reason?
AT&T Navigator remembers the speed at which you were driving before losing the GPS signal. AT&T Navigator
continues to give you driving directions based on an estimate of the projected distance that you may have traveled
at your last recorded rate of speed. AT&T Navigator recalculates your current position when you regain a GPS
signal and adjusts your driving directions accordingly.
I noticed there are stars next to some restaurants I have viewed or saved. How is popularity rated?
Popularity is calculated by the user-generated ratings, averaged by considering the scores of the ratings and the
number of users that have rated the location. A location accrues points based on how many stars it is given by
AT&T Navigator users. When a location consistently achieves above-average ratings, its popularity count
increases. Negative ratings lower the popularity count of the location.
When you travel from one region to another using Global Edition, you
should switch regions appropriately on your BlackBerry. If you forget to
switch, you will see a prompt if AT&T Navigator Global Edition detects
a region change by GPS. If you are driving within North America
(Canada, U.S., Mexico), AT&T Navigator Global Edition will
automatically load the country’s maps and 3D driving directions.
The following BlackBerry devices are supported by AT&T Navigator Global Edition:
To get technical support, please contact your AT&T care representative. See Customer Support on page 82.
What does the navigation mode look like in regions other than North America?
3D Navigation maps and traffic alerts are supported in the U.S. You can
optionally turn on these options.
AT&T Navigator Global Edition costs an additional $9.99 per month to receive service outside the United States.
Users must also subscribe to the basic AT&T Navigator, Unlimited service (also $9.99).
Do I need a special data plan in order to get AT&T Navigator Global Edition?
You need an additional international data plan to use the service outside of the United Sates.
Can I sign up for AT&T Navigator Global Edition while in Europe, or must I get it while I am in the US?
You can sign up for service while traveling outside the United States. Please contact your AT&T sales
representative for service details.
AT&T Navigator Global Edition provides service in a number of regions and countries:
