It Was Like Poetry

Written by Oliver Williams

It was like poetry,

the same beat, second after second,
path after path...

The rhythm of the footsteps,

the rhyme of the midsummer air
colliding with the forest songs...

Lost in a world known only to a runner,

the feelings never seen, just remembered,
come back.

Memories of a time,
When neither words nor rhyme,
controlled the feelings,
controlled the power,
controlled the thoughts,
controlled the hour...

With more than distance in the phrase,

and speed and time, and distant praise,
The stanza falls apart from rhyme,
entering another time...

The same beat,

second after second, path after path,

It was like poetry.
