STATE PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL (SPDC) AND ITS STOOGE ORGANIZATIONS

-A government employee from Ye Township in Mon State, who participated in making a list of eligible
voters, stated that in many townships, authorities were instructed to include at least one person from
government departments and the military regime’s stooge organizations such as Union Solidarity and
Development Association, in the voting list for the upcoming elections. As well as from the regime’s
patronized organizations such as Myanmar Women's Affairs Federation, The Myanmar Maternal and
Child Welfare Association, Militia, Swanahshin (People’s Power Organization), Red Cross, Fire
Department, Reserved Fire Department, and members of village and township Peace and Development

A. FORCES INSIDE BURMA

-U Tin Oo, the Vice-Chairperson of the National League for Democracy (NLD), stated that NLD would
officially submit an objection regarding the submitted party logo of National Democratic Force (NDF)
since they were using the bamboo hat symbol, which NLD used in the 1990 elections, in their party logo.

the Burmese military regime’s position of not allowing a European Union delegation led by Piero
Fassino, the EU Special Rapporteur on Burma, to meet Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Burma’s democracy

PARTIES THAT WERE PERMITTED TO STAND AS POLITICAL PARTIES

-A Shan ethnic leader stated, at the office opening and party signboard mounting ceremony of Shan
National Democratic Party (SNDP) held at Ohdan Ward, Moekaung Township in Kachin State on 28 June,
that there should be a Kachin political party to contest in the elections, which represents the Kachin

-U Saw Aye Ko, the Deputy Chairperson of Karen People’s Party, and U Thu Wai, the Chairperson of the
Democratic Party (Myanmar), stated that they had to find and approach candidates to contest the
elections, as it is very hard to organize and convince people who have been out of touch with politics for

-According to local people, Pa-O National Organization (PNO) has started campaigning in Pa-O regions in

NLD Executive Committee Members on 28 June and they inquired about the NLD’s current position,
objectives for the future, their position on sanctions on the military regime, and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s
