Business owners or anyone that has a level of experience with an
industry can become blinded with knowledge. You know that the
industry standard jargon for your widget is, “blah, blah, blah” but do
your prospects have any idea that’s what it’s called?

search engine. Don’t assume you know what it is. Do your keyword
research using a tool like Google Keywords and you might be surprised
to find that people actually search for a wide variety of things related to

mediums. You’ve got to promote your content in every offline vehicle
available.

Peru - 300 upgraded T-55

Peru has received the first of the 300 upgraded T-55 tanks is plans to buy
from Ukrainian firm Morozov. The upgrade is called the Tifon (Typhoon)
2, was designed by a Peruvian firm, and includes a new, 1,050
horsepower engine. There is a new turret, with a 125mm gun, modern
fire control electronics (including a thermal imager) and an auto-loader.
There is additional armor (ceramic panels and ERA, Explosive Reactive
Armor), skirts and standoff panels. There are also improvement to the

running gear, to handle the greater weight (five more tons). The crew is
reduced from four to three, and ammo storage for the main gun is
reduced from 43 to 30 rounds. Secondary armament consists of a
12.7mm and 7.62mm machine-gun. Morozov also supplies upgraded T-
55s armed with NATO type 120mm guns. Peru is replacing 300 original
design T-55s, if the initial units pass user tests.
The original T-55 is a 40 ton vehicle that was the ultimate development
of the World War II T-34. Armed with a 100mm gun, as well as a
14.5mm and two 7.62mm machine-guns. Over 90,000 were produced
(even more than the T-34) before production ended in the 1980s. The
crew of four is not well protected from anti-tank weapons, and the
100mm gun is largely useless against modern tanks. But against
civilians, the T-55 has proved to be effective. Peru wants an upgraded T-
55 for use against possible battles with neighbors, some of whom are
armed with Leopard 2s.

have 42 operational fighter squadrons by 2022 , up from current level of
32 squadrons .
IAF will be able to induct full 270 + Sukhoi Su 30MKI which will get its
due Mid-life upgrade program, which will include major changes to it
avionics package and RCS reduction to the airframe , further 40 MKI
aircraft’s will be made capable enough to carry air launched BrahMos
along with DRDO developed Long-Range Cruise Missile (LRCM) .

France to a standstill as workers, students and others voice their strong
opposition to a government proposal to raise the age for a minimum
pension from 60 to 62. A quarter of the nation’s gas stations were out of
fuel, hundreds of flights were canceled, long lines formed at gas stations
and train services in many regions were cut in half. Protesters blockaded
Marseille’s airport, Lady Gaga canceled concerts in Paris and rioting
youths attacked police in Lyon. The unpopular bill is edging closer to
becoming law as the French Senate is preparing to vote on it today.

The Nikon International Small World Photomicrography Competition

recently announced its list of winners for 2010. The competition began in
1974 as a means to recognize and applaud the efforts of those involved
with photography through the light microscope. Peering into the small
worlds of animal, plants and minerals using many techniques and
different instruments, this year’s entries brought us images of crystalline
formations, fluorescent body parts, cellular structures and more,
valuable for both their beauty and insight. The lovely folks at Nikon were

“Our proposed fighter would be a twin-engined aircraft in the category of
the MiG-29,” Subramanyam said.
On the status of the Tejas project, Subramanyam said the aircraft trials
for launching R-73 short-range anti-aircraft missiles and 1000 lbs bombs
have been successful. “The 10 prototypes and pre-production variants
have undertaken 1,450 sorties, which include about 200 with weapons,”
he said.
The IAF has projected a total requirement for about 120 Tejas and 16
two-seater trainer variants for equipping seven squadrons, while the
Navy wants 57 aircraft of this type.
The ADA is also looking at integrating the Israeli Python air-to-air
missile with the Tejas to meet the IAF requirements, while the Navy
wants it to examine the possibility of the Israeli Derby missiles that it
already uses on the Sea Harrier. The Tejas’ avionics system,
Subramanyam said, was open-ended so that weapon systems could be
changed over seamlessly.
Of the 200-odd Tejas to be produced, each of which would cost Rs 200
crore, about 100 would be powered by the American General Electric 414
engine. Subramanyam said that a new project had been taken up for the
development of the Kaveri engine in collaboration with French firm
SNECMA that would meet the revised weight and flight parameters of
the Tejas.

Japan’s navy plans to add six new submarines to its fleet, in a major
boost to its defence capability prompted by increasing military activity by
neighbouring China. The defense ministry wanted the larger submarine
fleet to improve its ability to patrol particularly the East China Sea,
where territorial rows with China frequently erupt, Kyodo News said,
citing unnamed officials.
The plan would see the size of the submarine fleet increase from the
current 16 to 22, Kyodo said. Jiji Press reported that the ministry
intended to expand the fleet to “more than 20” submarines. The plan will
be spelled out in Japan’s basic defense programme for fiscal 2011 to
2015, which is set to be compiled in December, Kyodo said.
The ministry plans to buy one new submarine each year while extending
the decommissioning period of existing vessels, Kyodo said. The ministry
was considering retiring other warships such as minesweepers, to ease
the budgetary impact of the submarine purchases, Kyodo said.
The changes would give Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force, as the
navy is officially known, its largest submarine capability than at any time
since the government adopted its first defence programme in 1976,
Kyodo added. A Japanese defense official declined to comment on the
reports, but told AFP that the ministry was planning to extend the
decommissioning period of existing submarines.
The reports come at a time of increased tension with China over disputed
islands and Beijing’s increased military activities in the region. The
Chinese navy has increasingly been deployed to areas near Japanese
territorial waters in a show of force by the rapidly developing Asian
giant.
Ties between Tokyo and Beijing were badly strained after Japan arrested
a Chinese trawler captain near a group of disputed islands in the East
China Sea six weeks ago, sparking a barrage of protests from Beijing. In a
tense incident in April this year, a large Chinese flotilla ventured near a
group of Japanese islands in the East China Sea and sent out a helicopter
that buzzed Japanese navy ships monitoring their movement.

Kockums launches second
submarine for Singapore Navy

submarine is the second in the Northern Light project under which two
Västergötland class submarines, previously owned by the Swedish Navy,
have been rebuilt, life-extended and modernised. The Singapore Navy is

world-class stealth technology. Training of the crew is co-ordinated with
the Swedish Navy at the naval base in Karlskrona.

150 Bulava ballistic missiles

Russia will need to build more than 150 Bulava ballistic missiles in the
next decade, an expert on the Russian arms industry said. Igor
Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine, told that
at least 124 missiles would be required for the eight Borey class nuclear-
powered submarines that will enter service over the next decade, and a
further 30 or 40 will have to be set aside for test launches.

In order to reach that goal, the capacities of the only plant producing
Bulava missiles, near the town of Votkinsk in the Urals, will have to be
increased, he said. The development of the Bulava has been beset by
problems, but the latest test launch was successful.
The missile, which was fired from the Dmitry Donskoy submarine in the
White Sea on October 7, hit its designated target in the Kura test range in
Russia’s Far Eastern Kamchatka region. The Bulava (SS-NX-30), a three-
stage liquid and solid-propellant submarine-launched ballistic missile
(SLBM), has officially suffered seven failures in 13 tests. Test launches
were put on hold after a failed launch on December 9, 2009, which was
caused by a defective engine nozzle.
Two more test launches are planned before the end of the year: one from
the Dmitry Donskoy sub, and the other from Russia’s newest strategic
nuclear-powered submarine, the Borey class Yury Dolgoruky.

be fired from an unmanned aircraft system (UAS). The Small Tactical
Munition bomb - which weighs in at 13-pounds and measures
approximately 2-feet long - features a dual-mode, semiactive laser seeker
along with a GPS-inertial navigation system.
As such, the small, yet advanced STM is capable of engaging both fixed
and moving targets around-the-clock, regardless of weather conditions.
“Current combat operations [in Afghanistan] have highlighted the need
for extremely small, precise weapons that are optimally designed for
remotely piloted aircraft,” .

The purpose of this test was to verify the model on separation of the
missile from the aircraft. The impact from the missile exhaust plume on
the aircraft engine was also studied. As an important part of the
integration work the data-link was verified as well.
An initial evaluation showed that the missile separated from the inboard
pylon station in a normal manner and the data link between the missile
and the aircraft was activated. Temperature data from the aircraft engine
was also monitored. The missiles flight was terminated as planned at a
predetermined position.
“Saab together with FMV Test & Evaluation Department accomplished
the campaign very successfully. Saab evaluates and analyzes the data
gathered from the test firing together with the supplier,” said Michael
Östergren, Project Manager at FMV.
With this firing the first of two phases in the Swedish integration is now
completed. The first phase was designed to support the development of
the missile while the next phase is designed to fully integrate the missile
on Gripen. The final integration with Gripen for the Swedish Air Force
has recently begun and is expected to be finalized during 2013.

helicopters as the follow-on advancement to the X2 Technology
demonstrator aircraft that unofficially shattered the helicopter world
speed record here in September with a flight speed of 250 knots (287
mph).
The decision to continue development of the next-generation rotary wing
technology will enable Sikorsky and select suppliers to offer the high

speed X2 prototype vehicles for flight test and evaluation by U.S. armed
forces. Sikorsky Aircraft is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp.
“Having proved the X2 Technology design to ourselves, we have full
confidence we can now mature the technology for the U.S. Army’s light
armed reconnaissance helicopter size,” said Sikorsky President Jeffrey
Pino. “Self funding the design of a brand new light tactical helicopter –
the Sikorsky S-97 – and manufacturing two prototypes we have
designated as the Raider™ X2 helicopter will help military aviation
evaluate the viability of a fast and maneuverable next generation
rotorcraft for a variety of combat missions.”
In March 2010, Sikorsky submitted an X2 aircraft design to the Army’s
Armed Aerial Scout (AAS) program in response to a request for
information. The AAS program is currently conducting an analysis of
alternatives for the Army’s next armed reconnaissance helicopter. Like
the X2 Technology demonstrator that broke the helicopter speed record,
the X2 Raider prototypes will feature twin coaxial counter-rotating main
rotors (in place of one main rotor and a tail rotor) and a pusher
propeller.
For the armed reconnaissance mission, the X2 Raider helicopter will
have space aft of the two-pilot cockpit for armament and auxiliary fuel.
In an assault configuration, the cabin affords space to accommodate up
to six troops.
In addition to flying at nearly twice the speed of a conventional
helicopter, the X2 Raider prototype aircraft will incorporate other key
performance parameters critical to combat operations — increased
maneuverability, greater endurance, and the ability to operate at high
altitudes.
Compared to other light military helicopters, the X2 Raider prototypes
are expected to significantly reduce turning radius and acoustic noise
signature, while significantly increasing the aircraft’s payload, flight
endurance and hot and high hover capability.
“These attributes will enable the X2 Raider aircraft to meet or exceed the
potential U.S. Army requirements for its next armed reconnaissance
helicopter,” said Doug Shidler, Sikorsky’s Light Tactical Helicopter
director. “If selected by the Army, the X2 Raider aircraft design will
enable high performance flight operations in high altitude regions that
currently pose challenges to today’s light military helicopters.”
Sikorsky will conduct its X2 Raider aircraft development program
utilizing military standards. The company expects to conduct its first
major program milestone — a preliminary design review — in 2011. First
flight, projected in four years, could depend in part on the pace of
development and customer need.

Enough water on Moon to make
a Base

There is a lot more water on the moon than previously believed,
according to an analysis of NASA data being published , a finding that
may bolster the case for a manned base on the lunar surface.
The discovery grew out of an audacious experiment last year, when the
National Aeronautics and Space Administration slammed a spent-fuel
rocket into a lunar crater at 5,600 miles an hour, and then used a pair of
orbiting satellites to analyze the debris thrown off by the impact. They
discovered that the crater contained water in the form of ice, plus a host
of other resources, including hydrogen, ammonia, methane, mercury,
sodium and silver.
NASA announced its groundbreaking discovery of lunar water last
November. Now, a more detailed analysis of the data—the subject of six
research papers being published in the journal Science—concludes that
there is a lot more water on the moon than anyone expected, about twice
the concentrations seen in the Sahara Desert.
The 5.6% of the total mass of the targeted lunar crater’s soil consists of
water ice. In other words, 2,200 pounds of moon dirt would yield a
dozen gallons of water.
The presence of water doesn’t make it more likely that there ever was life
on the moon, as the location studied is among the coldest in the solar
system. But the large quantity boosts the case for a manned lunar base
from which to launch other interplanetary adventures. Water is crucial

because its components, hydrogen and oxygen, are key ingredients for
rocket fuel. Oxygen can also be extracted from water to make breathable
air.
Finding a water source on the moon has long been a dream, because it
could save on the expense of transporting it from earth. A bottle of water
on the moon would run about $50,000, according to NASA, because that
is what it costs, per pound, to launch anything to earth’s nearest
neighbor.
Scientists have discovered significant amounts of water on the moon, a
finding that may bolster the case for establishing a manned base on the

But other countries are gearing up. China has pledged to land astronauts
on the moon by 2025, and India has plans to do the same by 2020.
Japan wants to establish an unmanned moon base in a decade,
potentially setting the stage for a manned mission later. So far, only the
U.S. has sent astronauts to the moon.
NASA chose its impact site carefully. Because of the tilt of the moon’s
axis, the floors of large craters at either pole haven’t received direct
sunlight for billions of years. NASA’s target was a crater, Cabeus, near
the southern pole.
Cabeus is a cosmic trap. Any material that lands there sticks. There’s
almost no energy to warm up the molecules, so that they can’t bounce off
again. Cabeus contains cosmic material that has accumulated over a
billion years or more. Scientists know that most of the moon is almost
entirely dry. But some remote observations had suggested that water
might be present at cold-trap regions of the moon.
The quantity of water discovered was 50% greater than NASA’s initial
estimates. Other measurements suggest there’s even a “lunar
permafrost” covering about 30% of the southern polar region of the
moon, with ice lying just below the surface.

In its search for lunar water, NASA launched an Atlas V rocket stacked
with an upper-stage rocket known as Centaur. Above it sat the Lunar
Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite, or LCROSS, roughly the size of
a Volkswagen Beetle. Atop that sat another satellite, the Lunar
Reconnaissance Orbiter, or LRO.
The LRO went into moon orbit. Centaur eventually flew toward the
Cabeus crater, followed by a hurtling LCROSS. Drained of fuel, Centaur
was now the equivalent of an empty soda can 36 feet tall.
It slammed into the crater’s “fluffy, snow-covered dirt,” scientists said,
spewing at least 8,800 pounds of debris, dust and vapor. LCROSS’s
instruments took measurements on the quantity of water vapor and ice
in the plume, then smashed into the moon as well.
The LRO satellite, meanwhile, orbited 30 miles above the moon. Its main
task—which it continues to do today—was to create a three-dimensional
map of the moon’s surface, but it collected data on the impact plume as
well.

A surprising amount of the Cabeus dirt, about one-fifth, is a mix of
different elements and volatile compounds, including water. The rest is
made from the typical components of moon rock, including feldspar and
basalt.
The scientists also found molecular hydrogen in the soil. “That’s
interesting because if you want to make rocket fuel you could heat up the
soil and hydrogen would come pouring out,” said Dr. Gladstone.

smaller and smaller electronic devices has had a great influence on the

Some of the processes that industrial automation robotics are required to
do would not be possible if the operations were manual. Consistent
insertion of diodes and capacitors onto electronic boards or the insertion
of tiny fasteners into assemblies are examples of chores that automation
robotics perform very well.
Demands of production that are made on industrial robotics also require
that tasks that are accomplished be very fast in addition to being
accurate. The combination of speed and accuracy that is required has
caused a shift in the use of some types of robots. SCARA robotics have
been replaced in some cases by Delta robotics to get the precision and
speed that is needed. The characteristic overhead mounting of Delta
robotics make them the best for working in a larger area below the robot.
Having six axis freedom the Delta robotic has the ability to perform
multiple location movements to get parts into a wide variety of positions
very quickly. The speed of these robots make them ideal for the assembly
of very small electronic units.
There has also been a shift in the capabilities of other robot types.
SCARA robots were once the only robot used in the assembly electronic
products. Now with the speed increases that are capable of articulated
arm robotics these units can effectively be used in soldering and solar
cell construction. Articulated arm robots are easier to program and have
good flexibility for assembly.

serial numbers had a pattern denoting the order of tank production.
Using this data, the Allies created a mathematical model to determine
the rate of German tank production. They used it to estimate that the
Germans produced 255 tanks per month between the summer of 1940
and the fall of 1942.
