STUDENT LEADERS RESPOND TO THE ANTI-CATHOLIC LITERATURE PIECE

PRODUCED BY THE MINNESOTA-DFL

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 10/27/2010

Andrew Curley, Chairman of the CSB/SJU College Republicans and Taylor Heinlein,
Chairman of the St. Thomas College Republicans, jointly released the following
statement today regarding the Minnesota DFL’s anti-Catholic lit piece released this
week:

"As student leaders at Catholic colleges and universities, we are very troubled and
disturbed by the mail piece that was sent by the Minnesota DFL attacking our faith.

KSTP-TV reported on the story last night.  They reported, "that this ad has hit a
nerve. It appears to be a priest on the front wearing button saying 'Ignore the Poor.'
It is so provocative that bloggers across the country have called it 'anti-Catholic.'
Even the archdiocese criticized [the piece.]"

The artwork is clearly an attack on members of the clergy by implying they

consistently "ignore the poor."

Politicians talk and talk about the next generation and how we, as college students,
are the future of our state. It is high time that they actually begin to listen to our
point of view.

This is despicable campaigning on several levels. Our classmates care about getting
good paying jobs after graduation. Since they cannot offer us those, the Minnesota
DFL is trying to distract voters from their reckless spending record with dishonest
smear tactics, and for some reason they've focused that smear on our faith.

These disgusting, deceitful attacks on people of faith should be condemned, and we

call on our fellow student leaders around the state to join us in doing so.

We demand better."
