Expansion of God’s Kingdom

Today’s Text: Acts 1:1-14


But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witness in
Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
Visualize the Text
1. What is the background of today’s text? Why are the disciples gathered around Jesus?
Please share your opinions about what is taking place.
2. What was the “gift” Jesus Christ promised to his disciples in Acts 1:4-5? When would the
disciples receive the gift that the Father had promise?
3. What question did the disciples ask Jesus and how did Jesus answer them?
4. Please imagine what you are witnessing as you see Jesus ascend into heaven.
Experience the Word
Do you believe all believers were present at the time of the prayer in Jerusalem? If you were a
believer, would you attend this prayer meeting or not? Explain your reasons.
Listen with your Heart
1. What is the purpose behind the disciples asking Jesus at the time of the restoration of
the kingdom to Israel? Compare it with Mark 10:35-40. How is it similar or different?
2. Examine Jesus’ response to the time of restoration of the kingdom of Israel. What does
He mean?
3. Imagine the attitudes of those who prayed in the attic.
4. When do you think Jesus will return to earth?
The Word Becomes Flesh
In Acts 1:8, Jesus is speaking of the church and the Kingdom of God in the same context.
Kingdom of God will be established by world mission and evangelism. Please share how you will
expand God’ Kingdom through the church.
Can you do God’s work without the Holy Spirit? Especially, expanding God’s Kingdom? What must
we do to receive the Holy Spirit?

Read Act’s 1:15-26, observe the events of Judas Iscariot’s death and the choosing of Matthias as
his replacement.
