OTTAWA SENATORS 2007 NHL Entry Draft – Columbus, Ohio
Ottawa Senators Draft Notes
Draft Summary: The Senators have drafted a total of 141 players since their first NHL Entry Draft in 1992.

Position Breakdown: Of Ottawa’s 141 picks, 15 have been goaltenders, 54 have been defencemen, 24 centers, left wingers and right
wingers. Seven (7) goaltenders have played in the NHL, 18 defencemen, 12 centers, seven left wingers and 12 right wingers.

Goaltenders: Ottawa has drafted 15 goaltenders in their history, including Mathieu Chouinard twice (1998 and 2000). Of those
goaltenders chosen, Jani Hurme (1997), Simon Lajeunesse (1999), Martin Prusek (1999) and Ray Emery (2001) have went on to play
for the Senators.

First Class: Ottawa has never been without a first-round choice at the NHL Entry Draft and had two selections in the first round during
the 2001 Entry Draft. Ten of Ottawa’s 16 first-round selections have gone on to play for the Senators, including Patrick Eaves (2003)
and Andrej Meszaros (2004); three have gone on to play elsewhere. The Senators have had three first overall picks: Alexandre Daigle
(1993), Bryan Berard (1995) and Chris Phillips (1996).

Senators and NHL Experience: A total 56 players selected by the Senators since 1992 have gone on to play at least one game in the
NHL. Twenty-three (23) of the Senators’ picks have only played for Ottawa. Twenty (20) picks have played for both Ottawa and another
NHL team(s). Thirteen (13) draft selections have played in the NHL but not for Ottawa.

NHL Teams Where Ottawa’s Picks Have Played: The Senators’ picks have also played with: Anaheim, Atlanta, Boston, Carolina,
Columbus, Chicago, Colorado, Dallas, Detroit, Florida, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Montreal, Nashville, N.Y. Islanders, N.Y. Rangers,
Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, San Jose, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Vancouver and Washington.

NHL Experience per Round: Ottawa’s first and second rounds picks have produced the most NHL players for the club: 1st round – 14
NHLers; 2nd – 9; 3rd – 6; 4th – 5; 5th – 3; 6th – 5; 7th – 3; 8th – 2; 9th – 6; 10th – 0; 11th - 2. The five players drafted in the sixth-round
would go on to play in Ottawa.

Diamonds In The Rough: In Ottawa’s draft history, they have had six players drafted in the ninth-round go on to play in the NHL.
There were also two players selected in the eleventh round that went on to play for Ottawa (Thomas Jelinek and Antti Tormanen).
Some notable late round picks by the Senators are: Daniel Alfredsson (1994, 6th round, 133rd overall), Andreas Dackell (1996, 6th
round, 136th overall), Chris Neil (1998, 6th, 161st overall), Martin Prusek (1999, 6th round, 164th overall), Sami Salo (1996, 9th, 239th
overall) and Karel Rachunek (1997, 9th round, 229th overall).

1995 Jinx: Other than the still developing 2005 and 2006 draft classes, 1995 is the only year in which no Senators draft picks have
played for Ottawa, but four did play in the NHL. No players from the 1995 draft year remain in the organization.
