Advertisement
Introduction- The word advertise means to
describe or present (a product, organization, Idea
etc.) in some medium of communication in order to
induce the public to buy, support or approve of it.
It has been derived from latin word ‘ ADVERTERE’
that means ‘Advert’ that in turn means ‘To Turn or
pay attention to’. So By it’s Very nature, Advertising
is eye-catching, ‘Attention turning’ communication
activity. The Aim of Advertising is to make the
public to buy a product of one particular company in
preference to the product of other companies.
There was a time when person to person
advertisement was enough to sell the goods
produced by a single, small producing unit.
But Now Advertisement can be a road side
hoarding, A crude illustration On the side of
Building. Eyecatching photograph printed in
news paper or magazine, And Now of course
Every television program is interspersed
with advertisement. Tempting the viewers to
go in for the ‘The Good Life’
Kinds Of Advertisement
There Are Mainly Two Kinds Of
Advertisements :-

1) Informative
2) Persuasive and competitive
Informative Advertisement- The
purpose of informative Advertisement is
to ‘educate’ Consumers by giving then
information about the goods and service
available.
Persuasive and competitive – To Persuade
consumers to buy one particular
manufacturer’s brand of a commodity rather
than another’s competitive advertisement has,
therefore come to be associated with the
marketing of branded goods. If a manufacturer
is successful in persuading a sufficient number
of consumer that his product is superior to all
others , It becomes possible to increase sales
without reducing prices.
Basics Of An Advertisement Copy
Designing/writing out such an advertisement
requires great skill an the part of the copy
writer. This requires the gearing up of the
communication process in such a way as to
achieve the following aims.
1. The reader/audience must be exposed to the
communication.
2. The reader/audience must be able to
perceive what action is desired by the
advertiser
3. The reader/audience must retain the
message of the advertisement.
4. The reader/audience must act on the
basis of the facts and argument given in
the advertisement.
What the structure should be of an
advertisement-

1. Title- Bold or Prominently displayed.


2. illustrations – Photos, charts, figure etc.
3. Text- description, explanation, etc.
4. Brand/Trade mark
5. Name, address, fax, E-mail, Phone of the
manufacture.

Display Advertisement :-
Display advertising appears throughout
the newspaper. It refers to graphically
designed ads, often with logos, photos,
drawings or borders
It may also be related to –
1. Improving company image
2. Opening a new factory or sales office
3. Inviting tenders or sale of scrap
4. Public issue of share
5. Appointment of dealers and distributors
6. Making a detailed policy statement,
clarification etc.
 Classified advertisement:-
Classified advertising, often referred to as "want
ads," are text-only ads that appear in a particular
section of the paper, classified according to type
(Help wanted, real estate, for sale, want to buy, etc.).
An ad with a border around it is considered a display
ad even if it's located on the classified pages.
Classified ads are typically text only and are charged
by the word or line. Display ads usually involve
color and artwork and are charged by the amount of
column inches they take up.

desire, audience of the message, and
audience resolve to act.

advertisement’.

against deceptive advertisement.
