Lesson Ideas

Narrative Writing
- Have class listen to a PM storybook on the SmartBoard.
- Discuss the key characters and plot line
- In groups brainstorm alternative characters and events.
- Students mind map their story ideas using Kidspiration. This
can be completed in the form of images in the case of
Dyslexic students.
- In their groups, students create a slide show of pictures for
their story (Animoto).
- Using Dragon Naturally Speaking, students refer to their mind
map to recite their story.
- Have students edit their text using Ghotit Software.

Science Research Project

- Students are given a topic to research. Encourage Dyslexic
students to use Search Cube to complete this task.
- Using Copernic Summarizer students are to create
manageable summaries of the sites they visit.
- Students are then to use Glogster to present their information.
For Dyslexic students it would be best to start with pictures
before adding text.
Sentence Writing
- Using a text currently being studied in the classroom, have
students use WordTalk to identify various language features
within it. After identifying and highlighting these words (nouns,
verbs, adjectives, and pronouns) students are to construct
their own sentences substituting their own ‘alternative’ words
for those highlighted within the text.
- Students then write their sentences into Clicker4 using either
text or images.
