Period 3

Chris Nuanhngam

I will never forget the things Chris and I went through. He was one of the most important people
I knew. He always gave me advice. He was like a brother from another mother. He was one of the
coolest friends I had.

I remembered when I met him in City Heights in 2007. We were at my friend’s stepbrother’s
house. My friend Johnny introduced him to me. I think he had some type of colored triple A shirt on with
some Dickies and some Nike Air Forces. After we met we went to go hang out at some random
playground. We were chilling and had some cool conservation. We talked about the cool bikes we had,
about the times that we got in trouble, and a lot of other things. Ever since that day, I thought it was
cool kicking it with him, so we started hanging out more often.

We had been hanging out for a while, for about 4 or 5 months so far. We were always going to
Escondido to hang out with his girlfriend. We woke up one morning, with some crazy looking hair, and
realized that we had to go to school in San Diego. We rushed out of the room, hopped in my friend’s car
at 6 or 7 in the morning. We were driving back to San Diego in a fresh BMW M3. Then the car began
sounding awkward when it was rolling. One of my friends said “something’s wrong with the car!?” I
quickly thought to myself that we needed to stop immediately, check out the car, and see what was
wrong with it. We stood for hours, with our thumbs up, trying to get help. Finally an old man stopped
and let us use his jack to put on the spare tire. That was one of the craziest times we had together.

I will never forget the last time I saw him. He was wearing a certain color from head to toe with
slick back hair. We were at the park chilling with all my friends, hanging out, and trying to figure out
what to do. Later that day, one of my friends left me so I went to hang out with my other friend. So the
next day I called my friend up to see what was going down. Then he told me one of the worst news I
heard in my life. “Chris is gone??!!” I screamed. He was shot at a party. It was sad and hard to believe
that he was gone.

Once again, I just wonder why they took him away from everybody. He always looked out for
me. He told me not to follow in his footsteps of not joining a gang. I will never forget his voice and those
words he told me. “But why it gotta be Chris?” I asked myself. That’s life, everyone has to lose someone
that’s close to them, see you when I get there brother.
