The next agenda we plan to take on is animal cruelty. We plan to spread awareness on animal cruelty as it is a rising issue these days. Animal cruelty The issue Cruelty to animals is the infliction of suffering or harm upon animals for purposes other than self-defense. It is the crime of inflicting physical pain, suffering or death on an animal, usually a tame one, beyond necessity for normal discipline. More narrowly, it can be harm for specific gain, such as killing animals for food or for their fur. FACTS *Scientists estimate that 100 species go extinct every day! That's about one species every 15 minutes. *More than 15 million warm-blooded animals are used in research every year. *In many circuses, wild and exotic animals are trained through the use of physical abuse. Animals are beaten, whipped, poked with sharp objects and even burned to force them to learn their routines! *Neglect and abandonment are the most common forms of animal abuse. *Animals are also killed to make fur coats. Elephants tusks are very expensive in the market and hence even they are cut from the elephants. This is also considered as animal cruelty. PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals ) People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with more than 2 million members and supporters. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry. WHAT WE DID *We spread awareness through public education. * We hosted special events which involved celebrities. *Spread information about this issue.
