Cameras: Canon HD SD Card Camera

There are two different types of Canon HDs- both of which are reserved under
the same title in the reservation system. (Left) One has batteries that are
charged on their own with a charger in the studio or that you can borrow.
(Right) Another has a charger that attaches to the camera, which you can also
ask to check out or use.
*Need a SD card to use this camera.
*Need an XLR adaptor to connect with wired lavalieres, shotgun mics, and
wireless hand mic- also may need an XLR cable.
Cameras: Panasonic Consumer Mini DV
Camera
This camera uses Mini DV tapes.

This is the type of camera students


working on the News at Rider
should be checking out.

In order to digitize from this camera,


you must connect the camera using
a Firewire to the computer and “Log
and Capture” in Final Cut Pro.

This is NOT HD quality.


Cameras: Sony HVR-V1U HDV Camera
This camera is mainly for
advanced production students
to use.

When one of these is checked


out, it must come with a Sony
HD Battery, as well as a Hard
Drive and a Sony Hard Drive
Battery.

You can use HD quality tapes


with this camera as well.

This camera does not need


adaptors to hookup to XLR
cables.
Cameras: Panasonic DVX 100A Mini DV
Camera
This is not an HD quality
camera.

You must use a Mini DV


tape for this camera.
Cameras: Kodak Point and Shoot Still Camera

This is NOT for video


taping. This takes HD
quality digital pictures only.

This has limited space on


its internal memory so it is
important to have an SD
card.
Tripods: Large Manfroto with quick release
plate
This can be used for Canon HDs,
Panasonic Consumer, and Panasonic DVX.

Make sure there is a plate on the top


when you check it out (and in).
Tripods: Small Tripod
This can only be used for the
smaller cameras: Panasonic
Consumer and Canon HD.

Not to be confused with the


“Minipod” which is shorter and
mainly used for the Kodak point
and shoot.

Make sure the tripod plate is on


the tripod when it is checked out
and checked in.
Tripods: Sony HD Tripod
Located in big black bags on the top
shelf.

Should only be used for Sony HDV


Cameras.

Make sure the tripod plate is on the


tripod before checking it in and out.
Tripods: Steady Tripod
Rarely ever used.

Only for special circumstances.


Mics: XLR Hand Mic

Must also check out XLR


cable.

If using Canon HD, must


check out XLR Adaptor
(as shown in the white
box in the picture)

Can be used with any


camera.
Mics: Hand Mic with Mini Plug

Can only be used for Canon HD


and Panasonic Consumer
cameras.

Can be used for interviews and


reporter stand-ups.
Mics: XLR Shotgun Mic
Shotgun Mic Used for film/movie shoots
Boom Pole where natural sound is
important, but can also pick
up the voices of the talent.

Usually used with a boom


pole to hold the
microphone over the
talent. MUST RESERVE
BOOM POLE AND XLR
XLR Cable CABLE.

Must use XLR Adaptor to


connect to Canon HD and
Panasonic Consumer. MUST
RESERVE XLR ADAPTOR.
Mics: Wired Lavaliere
Uses XLR Cable to hook up to
the camera (directly connect
the cable to Panasonic DVX
and Sony HDV cameras).

Must use adaptor (in the


white box) to connect XLR
cable and mic to the Canon
HD and Panasonic Consumer.
MUST RESERVE ADAPTOR AND
XLR CABLE.
Mics: Wireless Lavaliere
Used for circumstances
when someone is speaking
and possibly moving
around (or if you do not
want a wire attaching the
camera and mic to the
person)

Can be used for interviews.

Has a mini plug for


Panasonic Consumers and
Canon HDs.
Microphone Accessories

Boom Pole accessories unless they are
RESERVED.
Below- XLR Cable
and XLR Adaptor The adaptors and boom poles are
(white box) limited so make sure you reserve
them in advance.
Lighting: One Soft Light and One Stand
Used when extra soft light
is needed for a shoot.
Light Kit: 3 lights, 1 stand
Has both hard and soft
lights.

Should come with an


umbrella.

Check bag to make sure


stands are in there. If
not check out stands.
