Indian Political Parties and their Agenda

India has a multi-party system. The Constitution of India stipulates that India be a
federal polity with a central government in New Delhi, and state governments for
the various states and Union territories. Consequently, political parties in India are
classified as national and state (regional) parties based on their realms of influence.
Either it must have polled 6 per cent of the valid votes polled in any four states
alongwith at least four seats in the Lok Sabha or it must have got 2 per cent of the
total seats in Lok Sabha from at least three states.
