Lymphatic drainage of pelvis

• In general, the lymph nodes are arranged around the

main blood vessels
• There are 3 main groups of lymph nodes related to
pelvis

1 – Para-aortic lymphatic group of lymph nodes(lumbar)

Group of lymph nodes arranged on the right & left sides of aorta.
They receive lymph from
(kidney-suprarenal glands)—(testes or ovaries-uterine tubes-
fundus of uterus)—(abdominal wall- common iliac lymph nodes)

Efferent lymph vessels from right & left lumbar trunks-----------

cisterna chili(sac of lymph)----- ----- thoracic duct ------------- Left
brachiocephalic vein
2-Inguinal lymph nodes : There are 2 groups (superficial &
deep)

I – Superficial inguinal L.N.

* Lie in the superficial fascia below inguinal ligament

* They are divided into 2 groups (horizontal&vertical)

A-Horizontal group : lies just below & parallel to inguinal

ligament(consists of 2 parts)

Medial part : receives lymph from

1-Anterior abdominal wall
2-Perineum
3-Urethra
4-External genetalia(except testes in male)
5-Lower half of anal canal

Lateral part : receives lymph from

Back below iliac crest (gluteal region)

B- Vertical droup : lies along great saphenous vein- receives

lymph from lower limbs
Efferent lymph vessels from superficial L.N.--------- pass
through saphenous opening------join deep inguinal L.N.

II – Deep inguinal L.N.

• Lie in the deep fascia of thigh-along medial side of

femoral vein
3- Common , internal & external iliac lymph nodes :

* These groups of L.N. arranged around common ,internal &external

iliac arteries
* They drain into para-aortic lymph nodes
