Q: I want to know how to calculate the load for pipe rack -2 tier & 3 tier

pipe rack.

Q: what is the criterion for adjusting the lines of different sizes & different
services of lines.

ANS:
1. Keep the lines on left side requiring routing to equipment located on left
side and accordingly on right side to avoid long offtake runs and subsequent
suppport problems.

2. Heavier lines preferably to be located near columns to minimize moment

and bending of beam

3. Process lines be placed on lower tier to take care of pumping heads

4. Utility lines may be located on top tier avoiding mixup with process
lines

5. Large bore cooling water pipes above 24" may be not be kept on pipe
rack to avoid overloading and kept underground.

6. Flare header needs special attention, better locate on top of column

bracket above top tier, note that space is required for locatng PSV manifold
which would require operating platforms.

7. Keep electrical and Inst. trays apart at safe distance of 600-1000mm

min. or locate on differnt sides.

8. Place small bore lines upto 2" size in the middle in between big bore
lines so as to provide intermediate support by tieing up with big bore
lines.

9. Large size Transfer lines maybe located close to column or on bracket to

minimize effect of vibration etc.

10 Review off take of lines 8" and above at jumpover, if space in between
tier is inadequate, try 450 / 300 offtake.
11 Be liberal and provide 20-30mm extra space between co. recommended
spacing between pipes.

12 Avoid gas pipes or trays close to hot pipes.

13 Isolation valves, wherever provided on take offs from headers like Inst
lines or orifice plates or other inline accessories may require access, hence
place such items close to piperack grid for ease of access.

14 Review clearance under piperack required for mobile pick ups, fork lift
etc.

15. Plan intermediate supports, anchor bays, bracings, longitudinal beams

for supports,or inserts etc. in advance for better placement of pipes.
