A severe and potentially deadly

infection
 Plague is a bacterial disease of rodents that can
be spread to humans and other animals by
infected fleas . Plague has three forms:
 Bubonic plague (affects lymph nodes)
 septicemia plague (infection of the blood)
 pneumonic plague (infection of the lungs)
You can get bubonic plague by:

being bit by an infected flee

direct contact with the tissues or body fluids of a


plague-infected animal

inhaling infectious airborne droplets from persons or


animals, especially cats, with plague pneumonia

laboratory exposure to plague bacteria


 1) swelling of the lymph nodes
 2)fever
 3)headache
 4)tiredness and extra fatigue

 *symptoms of the bubonic plague show from 2-


6 days after exposure*
 Bubonic plague can be treated with antibiotics
 Bubonic plague should be treated as soon as
detection
 A common drug to treat bubonic plague is
streptomycin
 People who live in rural areas with rodents that
are infected with the plague
 People that handle the potentially infected
organisms
 Travelers and people that camp and hike a lot
 People in close contact with pneumonic plague
patients
