Modular prefabricated solutions
for photovoltaic fields
The substation is a fundamental component of the plant for the electrical apparatus
protection function and safety of operating personnel.
The whole structure is fully factory-assembled and tested in conformity with the
CEI EN 61330 Standard. After this, it is ready to be placed on the worksite to then
be put into service. Installation activities are therefore limited to cable connections
among the various different substations and the field switchgear.
Transport of the substation does not require use of any exceptional means of
transport. Should it be necessary to move the substation to another location, the
operation is simple and rapid.
The substations are fitted with a base with the same characteristics as the housing,
whose plan has the same dimensions as the substation. The base is supplied to bu-
ild a sturdy platform to rest the substation on and to allow convenient cable entry.
For this purpose, a series of pre-established knockout holes are provided in the
walls.
The substations only have the name of the ABB manufacturer on the nameplate,
which is the guarantee for the whole unit.
ABB has developed a full range of modular solutions for standard power photo-
voltaic plants, incorporating its components optimally inside complete, turnkey
systems, for each type of network configuration: radial, ring and distributed.

• Fully scalable: information, peripherals and computers can
be added at later stages
• Completely flexible (there are no limits to the type of
applications)
• Architectures can be made to measure and in respect of
the plant limits
• Client-Server modes easily implemented (by placing
additional operator panels elsewhere other than in the plant
does not require software development)
• Redundant architectures (immunity to apparatus faults)
• Multi-language function (changeover of the operator
language without having to restart the machine)
• Open towards other data importation/exportation systems,
in the standard ODBC data base formats.

The SD-View Concept systems are available in three
architectures:
SD-View Basic
Allows supervision of a small power substation (a few
concentrated switchgear) consisting of medium voltage and
low voltage apparatus, and emergency power supply systems
to be carried out.
SD-View Medium
This is the solution suitable for supervising several distributed
electrical substations (many pieces of distributed switchgear),
consisting of medium voltage, low voltage apparatus,
emergency UPS and zone switchgear.
SD-View Extend
Allows management of several large and distributed electrical
substations, each of which consists of various pieces of
high voltage, medium voltage and low voltage apparatus,
emergency UPS, zone switchgear and other apparatus. The
architecture also allows introduction of basic automation
logics.
Apart from the architectures described above, depending
on the size of the installation and orientated towards
management of power distribution, SD-View Concept can
take on other functional roles (technological, building, Motor Example of SD-View Extend architecture

widely used configurations.
- SD-View Energy Profile which consists of software
characterisation, aimed at supervision and management
of power consumption (of a factory, shopping mall, hotel,
etc.). The module allows acquisition and supervision of
water, gas, steam and electricity consumption, as well as Local and Remote Monitoring and Technical Assistance

one for supervision and control of a single switchgear. Connections
The display and control unit is mounted directly in the Connections available by means of the most widespread
medium and/or low voltage power distribution switchgear communication standards (RS232, RS485, Ethernet, Fieldbus,

The investment in SD-View Panel Control is already amortised
in the commissioning/start-up stage, allowing a simple check
and set-up of the switchgear in the plant, and allows an
archive of significant tracings and alarms to be set up right
from the initial stages.
