The Journeys of Odysseus and Percy Jackson

Both Odysseus and Percy Jackson have admirable qualities that allow them to

finish their quest and each faces dangerous obstacles that threaten their lives and success;

however the motivations for their quest are different.

Odysseus is a mid-age wise man and Percy is a young adventurer that is

determined to do what he has to do. Odysseus is a great tactic using warrior who

conquers Troy with help of the gods. Percy is a quick learner and needs to find the pearls

to get to Hades. Percy learns quickly to find the shoes and get the pearl in the museum

also he defeats Annabeth who is daughter if Athena on his first day.Odysseus is a brave

warrior who never says no to a challenge. Percy is committed to get his mom and save

the world from total destruction.

Odysseus is being guided by many of the gods and Percy is also guided by many

of the gods also. Odysseus is cursed by Poseidon and can not return home until he

worships the gods. Also Odysseus is guide by Athena making sure he doesn’t die. Percy

is guided by Poseidon and his friends from the Half-Blood camp. Percy is on his

adventure to rescue his mom and from world destruction. Also Odysseus is guided by

Tireseus, a blind prophet, who tells him that suitors are taking over his kingdom and also

that he will lose all of his men.

Odysseus is companied by many monsters on his way home. One of them is

called the Sirens they will engulf many of his men. Then he is having trouble with all the

rough seas provided by Poseidon. Percy has to fight a Minotaur and has no idea how to

kill anything. Also a fury is a problem because it is actually his teacher in disguise. Then

he has to face Medusa and he snake friends. He barely defeats her and progresses to the

Lotus Eaters cave and gets trapped there for 5 days almost depleting all of his time.

From all the similarities they have a big difference. That difference is their

motivation. Odysseus’ motivation is the capture of Helen and the long to return home to

his wife and son. Percy’s motivation is to rescue his mom and save the world from

destruction. Odysseus was dragged away from home because he “signed” that if there

was a war he had to go. Percy willingly left his home to go find his mom and his save the

world from destruction.
