Before signal activities can be computed, signal probabilities must be

known

throughout the chip. Propagation and calculation of signal probabilities


is complicated at

sites of reconvergent fan-out. At such sites, the input signals do not


contain mutually

independent probabilities. Gate probabilities, therefore, cannot be


computed numerically

at these sites. To illustrate this problem, consider the circuit shown in


Fig. 5.8.
Two distinct _directed_ paths are reconvergent if they start at a common node
_say

A_ and terminate at another common node _say B__ These paths are said to
fanout at
A and reconverge at B_ A and B are refered to as the reconvergent fanout stem
and the

reconvergent node respectively_ The major difficulty in computing the signal


probabilities is

the reconvergent nodes_
