Sineserye of ABS-6BN and Sine Novela of GMA are classic Filipino films made into television series.
Sine serye started at 2005 and Sine Novela started in 2007. Most of these classic films were originally from
comics but were more popular as movies.
Among the pioneers in Sineserye were Panday, Bituing Walang Ningning and Kampanerang Kuba.
However, Panday and Kampanerang Kuba were called as Fantaseryes by ABS-6BN.
Sineseryes were originally aired on primetime but some were aired on Hapontastik.
Other sineseryes of ABS-6BN were Palimos ng Pag-ibig (Vilma Santos and Dina Bonnevie), Hiram na
Mukha, May Minamahal. For the upcoming sineseryes, they have Burlesk Queen and Bagets.
Later on, GMA produced Sine Novela with with its remake of Kaputol ng Isang Awit (Sharon 6uneta
and Gary V.), Magdusa Ka (Emmy nominated) and Kung Aagawin Mo ang Lahat Sa Akin.
ABS-6BN also produced Sineserye as a special tribute to Ms. Susan Roces, the Susan Roces 6inema
6ollection. This includes Maligno, Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara and Florinda.



 Moving on to print materials, ABS-6BN released Komiks in 2006 and Precious Hearts Romances in 2009.
Komiks is a fantasy drama series which usually airs on Saturday evening based on Filipino Komiks.
Inday Bote played by Judy Anne Santos was the first episode which was then followed by Machete and
Sandok ni Boninay. Komiks also produced specials such as Mar͛s Ravelo, Agimat and the very successful
Pedro Penduko.
Both ABS-6BN and GMA produced full time shows adopted from Komiks. Agua Bendita, Momay and
Panday for ABS6BN; Darna, 6aptain Barbell and Bakekang for GMA.
Precious Heart Romances presents is an adaptation of the best-selling pocketbook written by different
bestselling authors distributed by Precious Pages 6orporation. Among the firsts were the series of Bud
Brothers followed by Ang Lalaking Nagmahal sa Akin (Derek Ramsey and Toni Gonzaga), You͛re mine, Only
Mine (Will Devaughn and Denise Laurel). PHR stories were aired for months. They produced week stories
called Quikilig such as Love is only in the Movies, starring Zanjoe Marudo and Mariel Rodriguez.

Aside from the franchised reality show big TV networks also tried to make original reality shows, Xtra
6hallenge being the first one and one of the most successful. Qpids, a reality pairing show for celebrity
loveteams was the first reality show in ABS-6BN. When Melai 6antiveros and Jason Francisco went out of the
PBB house ABS-6BN immediately gave them their reality shows like Melason In Love, In Da 6ity and Promdi
Heart. 6esar Montano meanwhile hosted, Mano Mano a celebrity Boxing 6hallenge.
 

 For radio dramas, ABS-6BN and GMA produced remakes of radio dramas such as Ang Mga Mata ni
Angelita, Gulong ng Palad, Maria Flor de Luna and Bituing Walang Ningning.



 
 Popular shows from different countries attracted tv stations in the Philippines. 6oming from


  countries, ABS-6BN produced Princess Sarah played by 6harlene San Pedro which was originally
Sarah Ang Munting Prinsesa from U.K.


 

 include GMA͛s monster hit Marimar in 2007played by Marian Rivera. Hoping to get the
same success, Rosalinda went next. Meanwhile, ABS-6BN created its own version of I Love Betty La Fea
and Rubi. Next in line were Maria Mercedes and Pasion de Amor.

With the coming of  

 the first Filipino show to have a Filipino remake was Zaido which was an
original Japanese TV show Shaider in 2006. In 2007, GMA made a local version of Lupin, a Japanese
anime also shown on the same network.
Later on, ABS6BN created the first remake of Asianovela, My Girl. GMA produced My Name is Kim Sam
Soon. Further productions were Only You, Stairway to Heaven, Full House, All About Eve and Lovers in
Paris.

 Moving on with 6hildrenserye, in 2005, ABS-6BN launched ͞Mga Anghel na walang langit͟ which
started the craze over shows that stars children. Another childrenserye is Super Inggo of ABS-6BN which
became very successful and so the network released a cartoon adaptation of it.
More childrenserye appeared like Panday kids, kung fu kids, pilyang kerubin, noah, momay and trudis liit.
Lastly, the most successful was May Bukas Pa who starred by Zaijan Jaranilla.



Apart from that,Telefantasya are Filipino fantasy television series produced by GMA while Fantaserye is
produced by ABS-6BN. Marina of channel 2 was the pioneering Filipino fantasy television series aired in 2004
followed by Mulawin of channel 7 which was played in the same year. This style continued up to now. Some
examples are the encantadia, kampanerang kuba, krystala, dyosa, the last prince, rounin and atlantika. Then,
ABS-6BN will remaking again Kokey and will also have Imortal, similar to your twilight saga, while GMA will
again produce Encantadia and 6aptain Barbell.

  Of course, when we say television, it doesn͛t just mean dramas. We can also input actions there. In
2003, Basta͛t Kasama Kita of Kapamilya Network starred by Judy Ann Santos and Robin Padilla started the
trend of Filipino Action Television Series. Eventually, it was followed by Sugo, 6odename: Asero, and Palos.
Lastly, it was Asian Treasures which was considered as the most expensive TV action series ever produced by
GMA, around 3.1 million dollars.



 Musicalserye are music ʹtype theme TV series. It was Bituin (2002) of ABS-6BN that started that kind
of craze which gave Nora Aunor her first teleserye. It was followed by Bituin Walang Ningning and Pangarap
na Bituin which was a regional semi-finalist for the 2008 International Emmy Awards. It was still observed up
until now for example, the Diva of GMA and the upcoming show of ABS-6BN, Idol.

 Now, let͛s talk about Franchised shows. In 2001, AB6 5 bought the first franchise of a show which is
the original Wheel of Fortune which was then followed by other popular game in the U.S. in the late nineties

 hosted by Multimedia Queen Kris Aquino. In 2006, ABS-6BN, franchised the
widest reality show, Pinoy Big Brother then more reality shows came up like Survivor and Pinoy Fear Factor.
Later on, stations produced singing competition / reality shows like Pinoy Dream Academy and the 2 local
versions of American Idol, Philippine Idol in AB65 and Pinoy Idol in GMA7. Other known franchised shows are
Kakasa Ka Ba Sa Grade 5, power of 10, 6elebrity Duets, Hole in the Wall and Pilipinas Got Talent.



 In the latter part of the early 2000s, Filipinos who joined international talent searches and were
noticed were sensationalized that͛s why talent searches started pouring like Talentadong Pinoy, Bitoy͛s
Showtime, Pinoy Extreme Talent segment in Pinoy Records, Diz iz It and showwwtime. In cooperation with
Bench, ABS-6BN produced the county͛s first model search ʹ Be Bench. Of course, Filipinos love singing, that͛s
why singning competition will never be outdated like Little Big Star and Search for a Star in a Million. With the
artista serach like Starstruck of GMA and Star 6ircle Quest of ABS-6BN comparisons between the two giant
networks became worse.
   Even though franchised reality shows are much known in the country some local game shows also
became successful like Go! Bingo, Games UpLate Live, Spin it Win it and Game KNB?



Of course Horror Shows would always be a hit among Filipinos. Nginiig (2004-2006), is a horror show
based on personal experiences sent by the viewers. Other horror shows that were popular in the earlier 200s
are Oka Tokat, Kakabakaba, Spirit and Wag Kukurap.

 Going back to the serious atmosphere, throughout the last two decades networks also produced
shows which are children-friendly. In the 90͛s the most popular is Batibot. ABS-6BN is also known for
educational shows for children like Sineskwela, Math Tinik, Hiraya Manawari, Epol Apple and Bayani. GMA 7
meanwhile is known for children shows targeted for very young children like Jollitown, Zooperstars,
Happyland and Sunnyville. This year ABS-6BN will be reviving Wansapanataym, one of the longest running
and most successful children show.
