Exercise Artlantis Studio 2.

Purpose
This tutorial is designed to allow you to create a Shader that simulates the window
glass with vertical blind installed. This is achieved with a broken surface by using an
image with an alpha channel.

System Settings
Use Exercise1 view.

Step 1
Open the Exercise1.atl file.

Step 2
From Tools menu, choose Create New
Shader to display Edit Shader.. dialog
box.

Step 3
Double-click the Specular-Reflexion
white box to have Open dialog box.

Choose verticalblind_r.jpg to assign it


for the Specular-Reflection Layer’s
image.

Change the default values to 59.

Step 4
Double-click the Shininess white box to
have Open dialog box.

Choose verticalblind_s.jpg to assign it


for the Shininess Layer’s image.

Change the default values to maximum.

Notice that some reflecting stripes that


match the white stripes of the image.

Step 5
Save the Shader to Exercise folder.

In the Edit Shader dialog box, click Save


As Shader.. button.

Save the Shader as Mirror_1.xsh.

Step 6
Move the Size Slider to 159.20cm.

Notice that the stripes width has been


increased.

Step 7
Double-click the Transparency white box
to have Open dialog box.

Choose verticalblind_s.jpg to assign it


for the Transparency Layer’s image.

The black stripes of the image match the


alpha channel (transparency mask). You
will obtain here a surface made of
reflecting stripes and of transparent
stripes.
