CONSTRUCTION BULLETIN
Notice of Upcoming Construction Detour
Highway 1 Westbound at 152 Street
Beginning on December 12, 2010, (weather dependant) motorists approaching the Port Mann Bridge to
Coquitlam are advised to expect a new construction detour along westbound Highway 1 approaching Johnston
Hill just east of the bridge. This significant detour is necessary to construct the new 152 Street overpass and
additional highway lanes leading to the new Port Mann Bridge.
This configuration will be similar to what is currently in place for vehicles merging onto the Pattullo Bridge from
Surrey and merging onto the Lions Gate Bridge from North Vancouver. The change will be in effect for
approximately one year to provide a work zone for crews to widen Highway 1 and construct the new 152 Street
overpass.
What to expect:
This detour will result in a changed merge pattern for westbound Highway 1 traffic and 152 Street on-ramp
traffic.
Vehicles travelling westbound on Highway 1 at 152 Street will be shifted to the north side of the 152 Street
Interchange onto new lanes.
Traffic entering the highway from the 152 Street on-ramp will do so from the left, rather than the right as is
currently the case.
The total number of highway lanes will not change.
Information regarding this traffic pattern change will be communicated through new electronic message
signs and traditional static signs (see images below), signs will direct drivers to use the full length of
available merge lanes, which will be lengthened, to keep traffic flowing and reduce congestion.
Drivers are encouraged to use the full length of the merge lane on Johnston Hill and to only change lanes in
designated areas.

In order to avoid congestion and to maintain safe traffic flow, drivers are asked to watch for and obey
all new directional signs and merge at the appropriate time. Please obey all posted construction speeds
and allow for safe and courteous merging. Traffic fines double in construction zones.
