NOTES:

Very fair pricing, and a tremendous "partner" when working on a

commission.  He thrived on the back-and-forth input from me.  It
really fun process.  Once he began the work, the turn around time
was very reasonable.

commissioned and delivered within 2 months, on time.

He doesn't do commissions all that often, but when he does...holy

smokes.  Words can't express how amazing the work is.  Great
communication, and very fair prices. (Too fare considering the quality
of work!)  If you like his style, DO NOT hesitate if he's open for
commissions.
Quick work, decent communication, but isn't nearly as flexible in
working with you on the piece.  His art style is far less detailed than it
used to be.  I was some what disappointed in the commission I got for
my money.  I paid nearly double his original asking price as I wanted
a very detailed piece - I just don't feel it was worth the money.  He
was very fair about it though and tried to make things as right as he
could.  Just be aware you're not going to get the very detailed Jerry
Bingham of the 1980's.
Well intentioned emails monthly, art yet to appear, but I may get a
free t-shirt out of the deal

4 week turnaround

True professional.  I don't know what his policy is on getting much of

a back-and-forth going between you and him on the project, as I
simply gave him a straight forward request and let him go.  What he
turned in was amazing, and was done very quickly.

i know others have had positive experiences but there were a couple
of commissions set up in about 2003 and never delivered - finally
refunded the money in 2006

Delivered on time.

Quickly responds to emails.  Once payment is made the turn around

time is 2-4 weeks.  Always gives 100% on his commission work.  He's
a LEGEND for god sake.

6 week turnaround

Always prompt to repond, but always "swamped with work"

Response once every 8 months or so, "Will be done this year, I

promise"
Great work, quick turn around.  This was before I really started being
more involved in the process, so I have little more to add.  I asked for
DD with radar rings and got exactly that.
Commission arranged and paid for mid-2006. Promised within about 8
weeks. $4 - 500 I believe, 3 characters fully inked. What then
happened was a whole succession of delays, promising new dates
always about 4 weeks away, never delivered. All negotiated via
"agent" Renee Witterstatter. Found out three other friends in same
boat ; we all kept being promised the commissions, they refused to
refund us as an alternative, and we knew from others Cons and other
work appearing that Golden was continuing to take money and
commission requests without doing the ones he had already been
paid for, Sort-of-artwork finally sent out during San Diego Con 2007
but they were deliberately done to include as little facial/costume
detail as possible and most had the infamous "patience is a virtue"
wording in there. Mine wasn't inked even though I'd paid for it, and
was pretty amateurish. Each of us came to our own arrangements- I
got my money back and sent the art back.

commissioned and paid for San Diego 2006, shipped at his expense
about 2 weeks later, stunning.

promised SD '07, Xmas 07, etc etc - still not delivered. He has now
agreed to refund but has not yet done so

commission agreed mid-2007, never delivered, have been offered

money back but not yet sent. Booooooooooo!
This is a tough one to grade.  Communication with Craig started off
amazing.  We wrote back and forth quite a bit in the beginning of the
process and then things went south rather abruptly.  He stopped
responding to emails all together, and the due date came and
went...and went, and went.  Then all of a sudden I get an absolutely
incredible commission.  Having spoken with other collectors, this
apparently is par for the Craig Hamilton course.  He a very
"inspirational" artist - meaning if he ain't "feeling it", your job is going
to sit.  In the end though, his work is unparalleled.  Just know going
in, that this could take, a LONG, LONG time.  (1 year +)
If you've seen my commission from David you'll be blown away to
hear he did it in 2 days.  Yeah, 2 days!  Some people are very leery of
commissioning an artist from Europe.  In David's case there's NO
WORRY.  Superb work, amazingly low prices, and a turn around time
that simply can't be beat.  Get something from him now before his
prices go through the roof!

Another near perfect commission experience.  Great communication,

quick turn around, great work, super low pricing, and he's willing to
work with you on exactly what you want in the commission. Geof is
wonderful.

Delivered on time, money taken when completed, and final picture

even bigger and better than I had paid for, so a positve one here!!!

never delivered, finally refunded via Steve Morger in 2008

It's likely not a totally fair grade, as I believe my experience was far
from normal.  He's a commission machine, and cranks out quality
work constantly.  My issue is with his sense of fairness.  I
commissioned him for a piece about two weeks prior to his
announcing a half price sale on commissions.  With the HUGE
response to the sale, his wait time increased dramatically.  I asked if
since he'd not even started on my piece yet, would I get a refund for
the extra I paid.  No.  Would he do something extra, since I paid twice
what everyone else was now paying.  No.  But I still ended up waiting
waaaay longer than originally promised.  How's that work?  He did a
great job on the commission, but the whole process left a really bad
taste in my mouth.
Super low prices and a quick turn around.  Can't ask for much more
than that.

A true professional.  Amazing work, sticks to his deadline, and doesn't

take your money until he's ready to actually begin work on your
piece.  (ALL artists should work this way!)  He's willing to take some
basic instruction, but does not accept too much input after your initial
discussions, so be sure things are very clear up front.

Great guy.  Good communication.  Fairly quick turn around.  My only
gripe would be that I asked for the piece to specifically be 9x12 and I
got something slightly larger which now won't fit in the portfolio I
wanted it to.  Not that big of a deal, but I guess you need to be very
clear and adamant about specific instructions if they're important to
you.
commissioned I think San Diego 2006, didn't deliver until late 2007, 2
pieces as arranged but then included 2 free extra pieces he did just
for me. All very high quality.

3 commissions arranged during Baltimore 2008 (Sept), delivered on

time about 6 weeks later.

This one is again a very tough one to grade, as I've had Jason do
numerous stuff for me and the experience has changed dramatically
since we began.  He USED to be extremely good at returning emails.
He no longer is.  His turn around time USED to be amazingly fast.  It
no longer is.  His prices USED to be insanely low for the quality of the
work.  I suspect those days are over.  He's begun working for Marvel,
and his commission work has clearly taken a back seat
(understandably so), but I'd be happier if he'd be better at returning
emails.  He's been working on a piece for me for over a year now, and
progress has been incredibly slow.  I know for a fact though, that god
willing, he ever finishes it, it'll be a commission for the ages.  He still
owes me another piece after that one...so I don't know what's going
to happen there.  He's clearly focused on his work for Marvel and I'm
dang happy for him.  He's got so much talent he really deserves to be
the next comic's superstar.  I just wish he'd return my dang emails!
has $200 of mine since 2006 and doesn't communicate, albeit he said
it would be a while!
Took $100 during SDCC 2005…said it would be finished during the
show (was not)..so he said that it would take it home and finish it 3
months. Emailed him several time over the year…his response,
"Soon". Fast forward to 2007 I send an email demanding a
refund...his response, "There is no refund. The pencils to yours and a
lot of others are finished. I will make a personal effort to get yours out
to you, despite my deadlines. If you are dissatified with that, then I
suggest you can ebay your piece as soon as you get it. I'm sorry for
the inconvience." Asked about commish January 2008...his response,
"There are four sketches before you. It's coming soon." Finally on
12/2/08 I'm fed up and send him a nasty email telling him to stick the
commish where the sun don't shine. He responds with his own nasty
email and tells me he'll refund "my fucking hundred dollars".
If the qualityDecember

arrives. Nick would
easily score an A+, but alas it's not.  Nick is a super nice guy, but his
communication skills could use a whole lot of work.  :)  Emails can
easily take weeks to be responded to, if at all.  And much like Craig
Hamilton, it takes a loooong time for him to get into the groove.
Once there though, he banged out the most amazing commission.  I
highly recommend him only to those who have tremendous patience.
Your patience DOES pay off though!
Decent work, decent communication, and a decent turn around time.
 A little pricey.

needed a year's worth of reminders 2004-5, refused to send a refund

- finally delivered some 12-18 months late

Generally responds to emails rather quickly.  Is VERY slow though.

You need to keep on him.  I'd suggest emailing him for updates on
your project every couple weeks.  Also, since the time from start to
finish can be soooo long, if you had specific instructions for your
piece, be certain that you go over that with him again before he lays
pen to page.  He may forget!  An example being I sent in an
unpublished cover for him to ink via light box...it sat on his pile of
work for so long before he got started on it, he forgot and inked the
original.     Always does very, very good work.  Very reasonable prices
for what you get.

Terrific experience

Another superb commission experience.  Very fair prices, not a bad

turn around time, and super fair.  He mis-read my scene description
and did a fully penciled piece and sent me a scan before he was
going to ink it.  I felt awful, but had to let him know he had the scene
wrong.  He apologized, acknowledged the mistake and re-did an
entirely new piece - which turned out amazing!  Just a really good
guy.  Contact him for some art now!

always delivered quickly, high quality (not cheap!), sends thumbnails

for approval

amazing experiences, 3 commissions in 2007 and 3 more in 2008; I

paid in installments as he made progress through them, all delivered
within a few months (2007) or about 6 weeks (2008), sent out
thumbnail alternatives for approval, etc. Paul does sometimes
disappear on road trips or something for a month or two and is out of
contact but he's a gentleman and trustworthy, just occasionally
scatty!!

SUPER fast turn around and low, low prices.  Nice art to boot!  If you
like his work, I highly recommend you contact him for a commission.

commissioned SD 2005, delivered LATE around Feb 2006, but he

included an extra free new piece to make up for it.
After receiving payment to digitally color a commissioned piece, Mr.
Torrance stop responding to e-mails.  I've e-mailed him for years now
and gotten no response from him.  I finally got ahold of his supervisor
via e-mail through a studio website where Mr. Torrance was listed as
one of the creators there. His supervisor wrote back that he spoke
with Mr. Torrance, and that Mr. Torrance remembered being
commissioned for the piece and would contact me directly. He never
did, and eventually even his supervisor stopped responding.

commissioned and paid August 2007, delivered Jan 08, on time.

commissioned and delivered high-quality within San Diego 2007

A real pro. Less than 1 month, start to finish. Rick sent a rough, then
pencils and then inked once I'd approved the pencils. Highly
recommended.

Slow response if any

Another near perfect commission experience.  Great communication,

quick turn around, great work, super low pricing, and he's willing to
work with you on exactly what you want in the commission.  HIGHLY
RECOMMENDED.

Neil has always been a professional when it comes to commissions.

I've commissioned 7 pieces to date…all of which have been exactly
what I asked for. Great communication & prompt turnaround. Highly
recommended.

6 week turnaround

3 commissions during 2007/8, all delivered on time within 4-6 weeks

of commissioning and payment.
