Purpose

This policy is intended to standardize the manner in which employees who sustain a
work-related injury are paid for their time away from work while receiving employer-
approved medical treatment.

Scope

The following applies to employees who have sustained a work-related injury or illness
which has been determined to be covered under workers’ compensation and who have
returned to work.

Policy

A. If an appointment is scheduled during an employee’s regular working hours for

doctor, therapy or other medical treatment for the work-related condition, the
employee will be paid at the employee’s regular rate of pay for the time away
from work. The time off will not be deducted from the employee’s sick leave,
personal time or vacation. This time includes travel time to and from the
destination and actual time spent during the appointment. The employer will not
compensate time spent at medical appointments that are scheduled outside of
the employee’s work shift.
B. Efforts will be made when possible to schedule these appointments at a time that
is least disruptive to the employee’s work schedule.
