III of the early END OF of all oppressors comes indeed as great comfort to countless mourners. But v.hat follows that end, to wit, the long-promised ~ 'heoerstie Government with its unspeakable blessings to obedient men, is of still greater- eonsolution. VThen Judge Rutherford delivered the speech on this comforting theme to the many thousands gathered in a national assembly on haturday, August 9, 1941, in and about The Arena, St. Louis, Mo., the vast audience acclaimed the message with joyous applause and enthusiastically adopted the Resolution that followed .

they are duly and f ully ordained and eommissioned by the Ahnig1.ty God to deliver His message of truth to all persons on earth who are of good-will toward Jehovah. The commission which Almighty Gor. has given to each one of his faithful servants and followers of Christ Jesus is set down ; rt Isaiah 61: 1, 2, in these words: "The spirit 0' the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord lu .th anointed me to preach good tidings unto th.; meek ; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenh ear-ted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bou nd ; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lore I., and the day of vengeance of our God; to COl\IFORT ALL THAT MOURN."

This is the "day .if vengeance of our God", and therefore the time when lIe will vindicate His holy narne.

Before He exercises his power for the vindication of his name Lis servants must proclaim His great name thr-oughout the earth. For several years past the witnesses for Jehovah have declared to the peope throughout the earth the purpose of God to vindicate his name, and of his vengeance against all wickedness. The tirne draws near, therefo :·e, for him to exercise his supreme power.

This is the day in which the people mourn, and this is the 'time when J ehovah's servants must carry fIfe mess age of God's comfort to all that mourn. This j,.j the time when the good news, 01' gospel, mns t be preaehed, ll.s command- .

ed by the Lord, to all nations for a witness, and that preaching must be .done by those who are devoted to Jehovah, and who therefore are J ehovah's witnesses.-Matthew 24: 14; Isaiah 43 : 12.

Every follower of Christ Jesus who is in a covenant to do the will of God is and indeed must be a preacher' of this gospel in obedience to the . Lord's commandment. All such have, in obedience to God's commandment, separated themselves from the things of this 'world, and they

:::.

must, as commanded, keep themselves "unspot-

,_.

Those in distress, and who mourn and who

desire comfort, must fully realize that Almighty God is the fountain of life and source of all comfort and joy., (Psalm 36: 9) The Bible contains all of that needed information, which will comfort all who desire . righteousness and peace. The faithful servants of God, receiving comfort from the Lord as set forth in the Bible, must bear that same message of comfort to them that are in trouble and who desire to hear the truth. Such is the present-day commission and work

of Jehovah's witnesses. .

GAUSE

What is the caus« of the great mou rrring of the people of all n rtions 1 How it is possible for the people to hav I~ peace and joy? Those t\VO questions are answc. 'ed in the terse and force I'ul wo rds of the Bible r eco rd at Proverbs 29: 2, to wit: "\Vhen the r-ighteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but wher; the wicked beareth rule, the people ruo r rri."

The sorrow, distress and mourning of the people of all nations, - herefore, as the Lord has stated, is because the wicked now bear rule and use that ruling auth :)rity to oppress the people and take away their liberties and the substance of their labor. The mly r-emedy is the authoritative rule of the wor ld by the King of righteousness. Those wh» now exercise faith in God and in his Word, and who obtain the truth f'rom his Word, look f'orwar d with eagerness to the day when the r ighte.rus shall be in complete authority in all the ear-th. It. is the truth that will make the people f rre f'r om fear and mourning. Receiving the truth, their joy at once begins .

The mighty wicked ruler is Satan the Devil, He

is invisible to human eyes, but exercises tremendous power' over men and nations. Associated with him is a host of wicked angels or demons, likewise invisible to human eyes, and at all tImes preying upon the people. That invisible, wicked rule is represented on the earth by visible agents that yield to and are controlled by the invisible j demon-power. Those human agents generally are' entirely blind to the fact (hat the demons exercise the realj-uling power, and hence they are led blfndly Into deeds of wickedness. Con- . cerning this it is written in the Bible that Satan, the god of this world, hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, Iest. the light of the glorious gospel of Christ Jesus, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. (2 Corinthians 4: 3,4) Those that believe not, here mentioned, are the ones who do not have and exercise faith

in God and in Christ, and who disregard the Bible as God's Word.

Satan is the "prince {god ] of -this world". (John 12 : 31 ; John 14 : 30) He is the 'chief of demons', meaning-that he is the leader of all the demon host. (Matthew. 9: 34; Mattliew 12: 24, ~_

The Devil knows his tin.e is short because the due time is here when he must be ousted and when righteousness shall rule the world, and which good news, when proclaimed, brings edmf'ort and joy to all who have faith in God and in his Word. time, when He shall rule, has come. His rule as King of THE THEOCRACY is of the greatest importance to all creation. .Under His rule the righteous will. of J.EHOVAH shall be done in the earth; and for this reason Jesus commanded all Christians to pray to God these words: 'Thy kingdom come; thy will be done in earth as it is done in heaven.' (Matthew 6: 10) Concerning Christ Jesus, the righteous King, it is written, at Isaiah 9: 6: "The government shall be upon his shoulder;· and his name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end." When that righteous 'King rules the world in completeness the people shall rejoice .

. The hour for his unobstructed rule is at hand, and every person who gets life everlasting must take his place wholly on the side of the King of THE THEOCRACY and, doing so, will participate in the blessings to be administered. This good· news, or gospel, must now be preached -to the people that, they may have hope and have an opportunity to choose Christ the King .of righteousness and live, and, failing to do so, remain as supporters of the wicked rule and perish. Each person, therefore, must choose his own destiny. The obligation and commission of ff ehovah's witnesses is to proclaim the truth of and· concerning THE THEOCRACY, which will enable

When God had completed the, dictation of the prophecy here considered Daniel says : "And I

The prophecy of Laniel, at the eleventh chapter, proceeds to detai I the struggle between "the king of the north" a: id "the king of the south", and definitely tells 0" the everlasting end of the totalitarian rule and that the Axis combine, the dictator-ial rule, sha ll soon cease for ever. On this occasion it is nr t possible to relate the details of that pr opher y, but, by the Lord's g-raee, The Watchtower wi 1 publish the same that the people of good-will may be enlightened and strengthened in hoj Ie for complete relief.

and I have chosen you out of the world, you are opposed and hated by all nations for my name's sake.' (John 17: 16; John 15: 19; Matthew 24: 7-9) JEHOVAH'S covenant people are the r-epresentatives of THE THEOCRACY and must hold fast their integrity toward God and his kingdom. To db otherwise means their destruction everlastingly. JEHOVAH'S covenant people are now engaged in a work of the greatest importance to mankind, to wit,· the directing of the people to the only possible means of peace, comfort and life. This one thing they must do.

The prophecy. shows that in order to fight against the totalitarian forces of "the north" "the king of the south" becomes more and more

. dictatorial. Both adopt the same method or means, .and as a result the .burdens of the people greatly increase and they mourn bitterly. Such

are the present-day experiences. -

END

What, then, shall be the end of this great distress and mourning ~ Shall the totalitarian dictators succeed in controlling the earth ~ God's prophecy answers that to the full satisfaction of all who' love righteousness. The prophecy tells that "the king of the north" receives information which proceeds from Jehovah God and Christ Jesus, and which greatly troubles the world powers, and "therefore-he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make

CO:MFOHT

By revealing to his covenant people the meaning of his prophecy J BHOVAH brings to them great eomf'ort now. None have suffered more than those who have held fast their integrity toward God. They hr.ve suffered for righteousness' sake. Because 0 i: their faithfulness to God and His King, JEHOYAH di rects to his covenant people this messagr : "Grace be to you, and peace, f'rorn God onr F'ather, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Corinth: ans 1: 2-4) Thus ,JEHOVAH plainly cornmands what course the Christian must now take, and which is, to "comfort all that mour-n".

Obeying God's commandment, and desiring to aid and comfor-t thos e who are in trouble, :JEHOYAH'S servants and witnesses now delight to call attention to the mesiage of the Lord, which has brought them great -omf'ort, and they bid those that mourn to give .], hearing ear to that message because it is f'rorn the Lord.

Again you. are reminded of JEHOVAH'S emphatic words: 'When the wicked bear rule, the people mourn.' Furthermore, .the present world powers offer no remedy for the betterment of the people. JEHOVAH'S remedy is certain and complete.

RIGHTEOUS RULE

Following the wicked rule of the dictator Nimrod, God' made known his purpose to raise up what the Scriptures speak of as "THE S'EED", that is." THE~CRACY

That righteous gove rnrncr.t is The THgOCRATIC GOVERN~IENT. It is thr government of JEHOVAH by Christ Jesus. Concer-ning Christ Jesus it is written: "The gove rument shall be upon his shoulder." (Isaiah 9 G) That government of righteousness shall endure, and the King, as the official of JEIIOVAIT, sha.ll adrninister life everlasting to all who obey Ilint.

If you believe God, u nd th.it the Bible con ta i ns His Word, then hear 8 nd rejoice in the emphatic statement thereof, to wit : "Behold, a king shall reign in r igh teousnoss., and princes shall rule ill judgment." understand it, and so states. Jehovah caused His

angel then to appear. to Daniel, who delivered from JEHOVAH this message: "But go thou thy way till the .end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days." (Daniel 12: 13) Clearly this part of the prophecy means that Daniel died and since has rested in death, but at the end of the days of the prophecy Daniel shall be raised "out of death as a perfect man and stand in his "lot" . The promise of God is that then the prophecy shall be understood. And now the prophecy is understood; which is proof that we confidently expect Daniel the prophet of God to soon stand amongstthe peoples upon this earth and many will see him and rejoice. And what is Daniel's "lot"?

Daniel, together with other faithful men of old from Abel to John the Baptist, when raised out of death to perfection as men, shall be the governors or visible representatives of The THEOCRATIC GOVERNMENT on the earth. Hereto- . fore they have been called "the fathers in Israel", but when they come they shall "be children. and representatives' of Christ the ICing, and thereafter be known as the "princes in all the earth"; as it is written: "Instead of thy fathers "shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth."-Psalm 45: 16. .

At the eleventh chapter of Hebrews a Iist appears of_ the names of many of those faithful men, which includes all the prophets, and therefore .. , necessarily Daniel is one. All of those, the Lord

Then instead of mourning the people shall rejoice.

The rule of the ea'·th by the "Axis powet-s" and the so-called "de] nocracies" hold out to the people no hope of perce, secur-ity, life or happiness. In symbol that guvernment of righteousness is called "the Holy City", because it is Jehovah's organization. It consfitutes the new heavens and new carih wherein dwells righteousness. (2 Peter 3: : 3) Concerning that kingdom the utterances at Revelation 21: 1-4 are of great comfort.' to all v .ho believe them: "And I saw a new heaven and a n ew earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea, And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. A.nd I heard a great voice out of heaven, saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is wi th men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their Cod. And God shall wipe away all tears from trei r eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there bE: any more pain; for the former things are passed away." It is therefore the time when all who put their trust in God should rejoice. The transition period is now here, evi- I.enced. by the wo rld trouble, and which soon Sh2U end with Armageddon, "the battle 01' that g reat day of God Almighty.'; The only place of safe-ty is under THE THEOCHAUY, that righteous rule of ,JEHOVAH by Christ Jesus. Some of the statements in this ex~ of "Iudge" '0 .•

J. F. Rutherford may seem so startling that we list our authorities right here:

The Bilie; Webster's Unabridged Dictionary; The

Report of the Special Commission to Investigate

the Activities Within This Commonwealth of Com·

munistic, Fascist, Nazi and Other Subversive Or· ganizations, So Called, dated May 27, 1938 (The Commonwealth of Massachusetts); The National

Republic (Washington, D. C.); The Vigilante (Chi·

cago, m.) ; The Rutherford Racket (Chas P. Win·

dle); Money Creators (GertrudeCoo~n); the news-

papers and magazines. l. P. Rutherford's (Watch

Tower Bible and Tract Society - International

Bible Students Assn.) publications, with date of

issue in ( ): A Desirable Government (1924); Government (1935); The Golden Age (Nov. 6 and "'-:J 20, 1935 issues); Uncovered (1937); Enemies ':~!l

(1937); Cure (1938) ..

eouUDist PubliCltions: The Communist Mani· festo (Marx &: Engels); The Daily Worker; Soviet Russia Today; New Masses; pamphlets - The Spanish Revolution (M. Ercoli-1936); Spain and the Peoples Front (1937) and Two Years of Heroic Struggle of the Spanish People (1938) (both by Georgi Dimitroff) (Ereoli and Dimitroff on Execu· tive Committee of Communist International, with headquarters Moscow, Soviet Russia); How ~e Soviet Union Helps Spain (Harry Gannes, contributing editor The Daily Worker); Spain 1936 (Ioseph Cadden, chairman of World Youth Con-

gress, and member of National Council of Amer· iean Youth Congress-both of which the Dies Congressional Committee Investigating SubVersive Movements claim are Communist created and controlled); It's Happening in Spain (International Labor Defense - Communist organization); Pr0- gram of the Communist International. The Bene-

factor, Vol. 1 No. 15. .

The purpose of this pamphlet is to show by these authorities that "Judge" Rutherford is just as mueh a false prophet as Lenin, who lies in state, pickled under glass in MosCow. Both seem to be worshipped by many deluded folk throughout the world.

The method \\ill be to eompare quotations from the various authorities and works by Rutherford. First, it is to be understood that no doubt many of Rutherford's disciples known as Sehovah's Witnesses are sincere. Undoubtedly many of them are as unaware of the insidious purpose behind Rutherford's propaganda, as are other folk caught in the web of deceit in such movements as the "Peace," "Youth," "Labor," and a hundred and one other phases of Satan's plan for the enslavement of mankind.

It will be observed that Rutherford resorts to arousing "fear," "hatred," and creating "an acquiescence to the ultimate destruction of government, business and religion." This is identical to the philosophy of, and method for setting up the Communist dictatorship. Obviously, Rutherford's technique is to keep the average person from recognizing the kinship.

Rutherford appWs to the"inherently religious folk, whereas Communism attracts the "direet aetion,"

cruder type of revolutionary non-religious elements

th "tra "

of society. He, however, uses e same s w men,

particularly the playing up of the evils of Fascism and Nazism, so that his followers like the Communists in lands other than Russia, have their attention focused away from the greater evils of the so-eaIled Socialistic Experiment in Russia.

Rutherford also joins the Anti-Christ throng in finding ways and means of breaking down respect for government. He also preaches "disarmament" for the lands inhabited largely by the white and inherently Christian peoples, but says nothing about the mammoth war machine being built in Communist-ruled Soviet Russia. He distorts history, misquotes the Bible, and proceeds to set up a new religion while at the same time denying that fad. For his major premise is that "All religions are of the Devil," so rou see why he doesn't want his movement ealled a "religion. "

RU1HUURD an~ ~OIIUNISM

Situ's TecUiqllt

The technique being used by Satan in the Rutherford "Jehovah's Witnesses" movement is illustrated by the following quotations from two of the DeVil's chief emissaries on earth. _ said: "Communism will be put across .. t by Communists (party members), but by non-Communist aid societies." While Wm. Z. FMer, one of the thief organizers of the Communist Party of U. S. A. and still its national chairman, said at Uls Angeles: "We Communista know how to get things bought and paid for by others." Remember that Lenin, with Trotsky and aid of millions of dollars contributed by German and American international financiers, led a smaD group, largely aliens, who seized control of Russia at a eost to date of an estimated 40,000,000 lives during past 20 years.

Rutherford's Madtioe

J. F. Rutherford, on~time srnall town Missouri lawyer (Cooper County), never was a IIJudge" in the true sense. Yet all his literature refers to him as "Judge." When Pastor Charles T. Russell died in 1916, Rutherford stepped into his shoes as head of the International Bible Students Assn. and Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society, which headqlW'ters

Publishing on such a vast scale and distributing at sum. low prices requires unlimited funds and an ex. peDSlv~ ~tion. Rutherford's operations com-

Besides the gigan. tie publishing operations, thousands of specia1 Rutherf~ portable ~ODograpbs are in use, with at least 126 ~ff~t records available. Sound troeks Opere ate WIdely m many countries. Obviously, much money must be neees- 58lY to operate this mammoth pIOl!ga!lda machine.

The logieal question is: "Who puts up the IJlI}ney&lid why!" 100 as in the CommmDat mmmmt u such, it being a revolutionary secret l!OCiety operating thIOugbout the world, no one is able to )10ft where the money comes from, or how much, or whue all of it goes, yet the immensity of its adivities till be plOVen, 8IId its program di. the "Why." The same ean be said for Jodge Rutherford's Jehovah's Witnesses. Literature from both caDlJI gives the

answers.

Rutherford, as does the Communist InterDatiooal. builds "fear," "distrust," and "class hatred" in the minds of bis readers and fonowers. The only diferenee is in the method. Rutherford ap~ to religious folk, wbile Communism attracts the non-religious. In between these two grou~. are many who pride themselves on being "Liberal" or "Progressive." The Satanie powers that use Rutherford and CommUDimn. also have means of attracting adolts and youth to whom the first two apparently have no appeal. Such "pink" organizations, notwitbstandiDg they have I following of millions, including some clergy and edueators, have been proven to be Communist born and controlled. So far as is known at this date, the Dies Congressional Committee investigating subversive movements has Dot bad Rutherford brought to its attention, but it bas already warned the public tbru the press against such organizations as the Ameritlll [ague for Peate & Democracy, the Ameriean Civil Liberties Union, the Ameriean Youth Congress, the American Student Union. the World Youth Congress. the lague for Industrial Demoeraey, and SO on.

We mention all this to indicate that the ramifications of the subversive movement are so great as to overwhelm the human mind. Also, the measuring stick that determines the subversive character of these many organizations ranging from light pink to deep red, can equally be applied to Rutherford. Therefore, he seelDS to be a part of the Anti-Christ program. There is enough truth and so much apparently authentic material and reasoning in the propaganda put out by all these subversive organizations, that the average person is not equipped to deted the error nor the Satanic purpose behind it all. Here is the measuring stick: Christ predicted that "And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many." (Matt. 24, lOll). And that the Devil would quote the Scriptures. So let's examine the record.

Overseas Witnesses

S"';tzerland is essentially a Christian nation. The Canton of Lucerne in 1936 prevented Rutherford's appearance there, and confiscated his literature. There was a demonstration of protest, and the majority of the demonstrators were members of the Communist Party. Jehovah's Witnesses lost its suit for libel against a Swiss paper which said it was Communistic in its leanings, and they had to pay the court costs.

The "EXAMINER" of Nelson, New Zealand, (Sept.

SO, 1987) says in part: " ... Their distributors reach the most remote farm-houses in New Zealand. The

tract illustrations depict clergymen and priests as scoundrels, and would be equally suitable for ~m· munist publications. The reading affirms that the world win be a better place after a cras~ with its governments mrthrown . . • There always seems to be unlimited cash from somewhere for queer concerns like this." Its March 1938 issue: " •.. lehovah's Witnesses ... are busy distributing their highly coloured tracta to natives in Northern Rhodf.sia, Central Africa. These tracts denounce established Churches and GovcrIU1lents as of the Devil. An 'EXAMINER' correspondent asked a native what the Rutherfordites taught and was told, 'They say the mission schools tell aIllit!S, and all the White people say is lies except the Wateh Tower.' ... " The foregoing is certainly self~lIplanatory.

Stirring Up the Negroes

THE VIGILANTE, Vol. m No.7 Dec. 1935 says in part: "Joseph Rutherford, who during the World War served a portion of a sentence in the United States Penitentiary in Atlanta for conspiracy and violation of the Espionage Act ... in his 'Golden Age' of Nov. 17, 1935, editorially holds up as a martyr to a holy cause, John Priester, 8 Negro of Val· dosta, Ga., who W85 fired from his job as city employee for refusing to take the oath of allegiance to

" the Constitution of the State of Georgia, the very charter undP1 wbich his job had legal sanction ... Rutherford sees no incongruity in ignoring the triple virtues of gratitude, appreciation and 1o~'a1ty, upon which our civiUzatiQn is based, when applied to the

State, while demanding slavish loyalty to himself from his dupes ... "

VoL m Nos. ~ (let.·Nov. 1935 says in part: " ... 'l11e Board of Edueation of Secaucus, N. I., on Nov. 2, decided to expel from the Lineoln School of that city ... youthful sisters, who refused to salute the American flag on religious grounds. 'l11e parents of the girls, foUowers of lehovah's Witnesses, sought to defend their ehiJdren by calling the salute to the flag as 'an obeisance and an act of worship the same as bowing to the golden calf in biblical times,' pointing out that a salute under eoercion would not be of value, but 'would make hYJloerites of the children,' and that 'surely the Board of Education does not wish to start them off in life as hypocrites.' The defense, whieh was represented by a lawyer of the Allfritan Civil Liberties Union (Communist aid soeiety), presented a eopy of the 'Golden Age,' a publication of Sehovah's Witnesses, to substantiate its stand . . . They are pronounced pacifists. have been distributed in great volume, among the enlisted men of the United States Army and Navy, especiaJJy with the Pacific Fleet, whieh has also been the target of a veritable barrage of Communist and subversive propaganda. Whence eornes the money for this purpose, and what is the object, one well may uk! Who is the friendly philanthropist?"

10

THE NATIONAL REPUBLIC, Dec. 1935 says in part: "In our last issue special attention wu eaDed to the new epidemic of disloyalty which is sweeping over the eountry under the guise of a religiOUA !ed, 'Jehovah's Witnesses,' also known as the Rutherford Bible Watch Tower, and the International Bible Students Assn. In many instances the children of members of this sect have refused to salute the American flag in their classrooms, terming it the 'emblem of the devil' ... In Cannonbury, Pa., a second grade teacher, Grace Estep, 25 years of age, her brother and sister, all members of Jehovah's Witnesses, have openly rebeUed against such sets of patriotism. As a result, they hav~ been dismissed. Four students in rural schools in Middleburg, Pa, have taken a similar stand and met with similar fate. A ruling by Attor. ney General Charles J. Margiotti of PhiJadeiphia lIlikes it eompulsory for teachers and students in that State to take the oath of allegiance."

The foregoing illustrations of Rutherford's maehine. in operation, prove it doing exactly the same in net result as the Communist movement and its numerous affiliates. Worldwide it is stirring up class and race hatred, disrespect for governments, and undennining the defenses of Christian nations, thus aiding the Anti-Chriat forces of chaos.

Birds of a Feather

Another measuring. stick is the old saying "BiMs of a feather flock together." A pamphlet copyrighted 1924 by Rutherford, "A DESIRABLE GOVERN. MENT," praises those whom Rutherford headlines as

II

,I

r

''The World's Outlook by Foremost Statesmen." He includes in that list which he quotes, supporting his views, five who are found with radical records. One of these, Frederick I. Libby, heads a coalition of pink to red organizations, some of which not only advocated recognition of Soviet Russia, but today are securing "slacker oath pledges" from the youth of our nation thru high school, college and religious youth organ: izations, by which such youth pledge themselves not to bear arms in defense of their country, and some even advocate Sllbotage in order to help bring about defeat of their nation in the event of war. Needless to say, Libby's and Rutherford's national and inter. national organizations can only succeed in thus dis. arming Christian nations, for the dictator nations of the world (Russia, Italy and Germany) will not toler. ate any such activities. In fact, all organizations. youth and otherwise, are all synchronized to build armaments and armed forces in those countries which in the end will be pitted against the partially dis. anned-mentally and physically-Christian nations. Christ never advocated disarmament-but just the reverse, because He knew that the militaristic unChristian peoples would always be a threat, and would e.ventually turn upon Christian nations. We are living in the day when that is taking place.

THE VIGILANTE Vol. rn Nos. ~ Oct.· Nov. 1935 comments on this "foremost statesman" Libby, whom Rutherford praises: " ... this 'neuter' who would Dot fight fOl his wife, is now busy selling one million

12

do1lars worth of 'peace bonds' to other men's wives. He won't fight so he must clothe UntIe Sam in a Mother Hubbard which covers everything and touches nothing. This is the same shifty little American, who, a few years back, said Poland should feed its own starving children, but that we - the United States.--Mould feed the starving children of Soviet Russia. Also, not to be forgotten is the fact that the then official mouthpiece of his organization, the misnamed National Council for the Prevention of War, now known as 'Peace Action,' was the self-admitted advotate of the Soviet Union. Libby has hired him· sell 420 salesmen to high·pressure one million dollars graft from gullible Americans with which to sabotage national defense in the next session of Congress. Folks, Moscow would like to buy your coffins long before the expected interment. Libby should accept 8 commission to pacify the Red Army. That's the job for his merry men."

A Few Dtfinitions

Before we go further it would be well to consider a few definitions. When one sets himself up as a higher authority than the Bible, and Webster's Ilnabridged Dictionary, then we are dealing with one who is definitely dangerous. There must be accepted standards in the world~ther\\'ise chaos. By this very tactic, Rutherford proves himself to be aligned with Satan, engaged in the same program-that of bringing chaos to the world, so that out of the misery of the peoples the Communistic dictatorship can be created.

t On page 47 of that 1924 copyrighted Pamphlet "A DFSIRABLE GOVERNMENT," Rutherford says: ''Nowhere in the New Testament is patriotism eil. couraged." He defines patriotism as "a narrow. minded hatred of others," and as "the spirit of the very devil." WElISter gives it as "love of one's coun. try." A patriot so loves his country as to be willing to defend it in time of danger, and do everything as a good citizen and Christian to build it in time of peace. The New Testament (regardless of "Ruther. ford's lie to the contrary) says in St. lobo 15:18, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man ~y down his life for his friends." By this definition it is seen that a Christian is not only expected to lay d~wn his tife for his family, but also for his friends. The family and your neighbors make up the nation. Observe Rutherford's typical Communistic tactic of laying emphasis on ''hate.''

Rutherford claims he is not organizing a new reli. gion, obviously because he claims that aD religions are of the Devil. Yet Webster defines retigion as: "1. The recognition of God as an objeet of WOrship, love, and obedience; right feelit:gs toward God as rightly apprehended; piety. 2. Any system of faith and worship; as the religion of the Turks, of Hindoos of Christians; true and false religion," Rutherfo~ tries to make no distinction between true and false religions, but trips himself up by using such expressions as "Devil religion." (see "ENEMIES" pp, los. 104:106-107, e~~ This stip on his part is, in ilself, obvious reeogrution of the truth of history-and of

14

the Bible-that there always has been on earth, the true and the false re1igions. There are many quota. tiona in the Bible, but this one from CoIo&sians 2:8 defines and WIl'D8: "Beware lest any man SJW you tbIougb philosophy and vain deeei~ after the tradi· tion of men, afta' therudimenb of the world, and not afta' Christ." (Satan is of this work! and rules men through false philosophy, vain deeei~ traditioJis. and N1ed worldly wisdom.) Could you think of a better definition of the false religion? Measure Rutherford with it.

On page 71 of that 1987 published book "ENEMIES," Rutherford says: ''Babylon is the mother of all re1igions, and the Devil is the father thereof." Since Rutherford is propagating a new re1igion, he thus admits its true parentage. Christians know, of course, that followers of Christ, whether Catholic or Protestant, are not of Satan's host, for as Christ says, one cannot serve two masters. While Rutherford " tries to make it out that the Christian re1igion par. ticularly is of the Devil, the Communists fight Christi· anity because they, as Satan's out-and-out followers (being GOO-haters), realistically and practieally rec· ognize that as long as Christianity exists, it is impossible for them to set up Satan's dictatorship, i.e., Satan's religion all over the world. Therefore, Roth· erford and Communism in their attacks on the Christian religion and tricky use of words tning to conceal the fact that they in turn are setting up the Devil's re1igion in its place, are today exemplification of the Bible definition and warning. Yet today tens of millions are blindly following in their train.

Rutherford's apparent purpose in faking so many lalse definitions andP!emises is to build a background (or the assertion (and many similar to it) on page 328 of "'ENElIIES": "The chief visible enemv.of God , , : is the Roman· Catholic religious _. tioli," If that is true, why do the Commtmiats seek to destroy the Catholic Chwth first! Ru"erford Ddends Soviet Russia

On page 13 of "ENEMIEs," Rutherford devotes only 36 words to Stalin (present figurehead of God. less Soviet Union, which is the chief visible enemy of God, Rutherford to the contrary). He then devotes two-thirds of a page of hate towards Mussolini, and pnetically a whole page to HiUer. While the author holds no brief for either Hitler or Musso. lioi, yet it is strange that Rutherford disposes so IigIIUyof the real war-makera (against God,and man) in the world, and yet discourses at length here and elsewhere on the evil! of those two dictators who only earne into being as a direct result of the growth and threat of (Ammunism in Germany and Italy. It is also illuminating to find Rutherford aecuaing the Nazi of blll'lling the German Reichstag "and then mali. ci01l8ly charged an eppaBiq JOIIllaJ JII1J with that crime of arson." What Rutherford fails to state is that the "opposing poIitieal party," which he defends, was none other than an llien iltematial subdivisieo of the Coallllist IatnatioaaL

let alone a true Christian, he would give the facts as to what has aetuaIJy happened in those countries, and what is happening there and elsewhere over the world by reason of the activities of the Godless group of super.gangsters whom Satan is using to set up his merciless dictatorship aD this earth, While the author is absolutely against any "ism" other than Christian AmerJeanism, yet he, as well as all earnest students of history, recognizes the fact that were it not for Mussollni and Hitler, the Godless Red flag would be triumphantly waving over the world today, In His own good way, DO doub~ God has permitted the rise of the defense against Anti'(:hrist Bolshevism, in those countries long used to kings and emperors (i,e., dictators), Italy and Germany, in order to give Christians in other lands time to become awakened to the daitgers of Satan's plans for attempted utter destruc. tion of Christendom. We are encouraged in our fight against the Anti-Cbrist because the Bible promises that eventually Satan will lose out-but we must do our bit.

On ~es 5~1 of "ENEMIES," Rutherford pur. ~rts to explain the confessions of the Communist leaders in Russia who were tried and executed in 1937. He claims they were ''victims who bad fallen under control. of wicked lIISeIs , , . Those wicked angels injected into the minds of those poor men the delusion that they were guilty, and induced them to confess crimes of which they were entirely innocent ••• "

Rutherford offers DOt one word of criticism of those "poor men"_Red leaders who had participated in the 22

terrible torture, 8tarvation and eold.b(ooded alaughtl!r of an estimated 40,OOO,(lOO...mostly Chriatllll8. Facts, ollervatiOM of witn_ and atatementa in the Com. m1llli8t press, are that these "poor 1IIfII" ,m either or both, under influence of dope, lueh u aimiIar gangsten use in the United States, or influenced by promi8e8 of immunity for their relative!, when they made their oonfuOII8. Certainly the crimea of libotage, etAl., to which they eon!-, were leas dastardly than thOle previoualy rommitted, which by so doing, had elevated them to leadership in Soviet RU88ia,

In this great "demoeraey" that Rutherford thus defends, the Bombay PM Serviee (India), issue of Aug. 27, 1938, says that the Lutherall Chureb of St. Peter and St. Paw of M06COW '118 luddenly eloeed by order of the political police. Thia was the laat Pr0testant chureb, which had been open, but without a pastor for eighlAlen months, "Every Protestant cler. gyman has now been sent either to prison or into exile. In Leningrad all Protestant ehurthes have also been closed." No doubt this is the ideal condi. tion that Rutherford is working lor allover the world. So are the Communists!

Explaining one reason for some of those tried and executed in Russia, comes the new& from Geneva, Switzerland, lIS quoted in the same Bombay Preas Service, 'Augustin Zyrmiteh, an industrial worker fugitive from Russia, in Y lIg08iavia, is Q1IotEd:

On page 61 of "ENEMIES" he says: "ReeenUy there has come an aIDic. tion upon the laboring element of the nations, and whieh is expressed in what is called 'sit,(jown strikes: &!eh has been a mystery to many persons, and is yet, The fact is !.hat the same devilish crowd that operated the Nazis in Gmnan)' and conspired to have a weak·minded man to confess to thcir crime (burning of Reiehstag in Bmin) likewise is operating upon the minds of men to produce a situation mystill'ing to the people and in an endeavor to bring about a destruetiOn of the nations and the people." Re-read tha~ and then rwI this.

Filet is, of course, that the Reds ffred the Reich. stag, just as they are responsible for "sit-down strikes" in the United Stales today. This attempt by Rutherford to lay the blame on the Nazis is ridieu.

When Rutherford says tha~ as he does time and again, that in itself is all one needs to know in Older tAl realize that he is on the DeviI's team. On'page 164 of "ENEMIES" he says: "l'he scarecrow held up ~out the lands now is that of ~mmunism, and it IS the llpaey that is behind that scarecrow movement Everyone Who dares teD the troth about the Roman IDerarehy is by that organization denoimeed as a ~mmunist The facts are that ~mmunism has ~ encouraged by the Jesuits, the secret order of the Roman Catholic IDerarehy, and then used as a eamoUftage or scarecrow to frighten the people tAl unite in 8 movement eontrary theretAl, and whieh lalter movement is clearly eontroiled by the PlI*Y. Mussolini and Hitler have supported the Roman Catholic Hier. archy in the prosecution of that rebellious war ... "

Nowhere does Rutherford quote his authorities for such outrageous lies as above. In the first place, hundreds of millions of people in Russia, China, Hun· gary, Spain, not to mention the rest of the world, know from first hand experiences that Communism is no scarecrow! During the past twenty years, any movement that has bee:! responsible for the loss of at least 40,000,000 lives-most of them Christians in their own light-is certainly a movement that warrants something stronger than being lightly called a "scarecrow." Many more millions during that period have lived in the countries named, plagued with persecution, starvation, misery and a life worse than death. Too many who were in those countries when the Red Terror appeared, and then were lneky enough to dee to safety, and too many visitors from America to those lands who have seen first hand the results of that Red Terror, have talked and written the truth, to permit Rutherford to go

uncballenged by 8uch m:aJieiOtl! and cruel falsiflca· tions in the D8IIIe of truth.

Rutherford attributes to priests, the Catholic Church, Hitler and Mussolini, the cruel murders of bundreds of thousands in Spain. Nowhere does he state the fact known to even casual mdem of the press that Communists from all over the world, par. tieularly from Russia, have been engaged in that cruel murdering in Spain. For over two years the Com·

o munist Press in this country bas bragged about the aid given to the so.alled loyalists (Communiskon. trolled) in Madrid, BwIona, ele. Refer to the In· troduction of this pamphlet and read the titles of just a feW of the many Communist pUblieations which by their very titles give proof of the Red aid in leftist Spain. In fact, there never would have been a civil war in Spain had it not been for the alien Communist machine which Moscow started building in Spain over twenty years ago.....and which had an impetus given to it in 1931 when HIed Liberals thanged the form of government. "Sit-down strikes" and arbitrary governmental regimentations, plus the murdering of hymen who opposed the setting up of the Communistic regime, plus the wanton destruction of Church and private property, finally caused rebel· lion on part of the Christian people in Spain. Had it Dot been for the outside intervention by Soviet Russia in the first place, and then the continued sup. port by manpower, planes, guns, muniti.ons, ~tc., as well as money, food, clothing and medIcal atd, the Christians in Spain would have been able to get their

Rutherford's total'ignoring of the plain fads' of modern history in order to eoncoctlie&Se against the Catholic ChW'cll shows the'innate viciousness 'ot his nature and program. Without going any further into Rutherford's voluminous works, one here has definite proof of his sympathy if not his'actual tieup with the Communist leadership of the world. As do all Satan's propagandists, Rutherford misuses words as well as facts. For' example, he refers to the Madrid government in Spain as a "republic." It never was, and certainly is not today a republic, Furthermore, he refm to the United States which was founded as a, true republic, as a "democracy." The founding fathers of our country were mere fearful of "democracy" (mob rule) than they, were of "autocracy," and they hadtived under both. That's why, after four months of prayerful, concentrated study of the history and governments of the world. our forefathers were able to give US a Constitutional ReJl1lblic. It w8lfdesigned to save us from dictatorship! of either the proletariat or of autocrats. It is

significant that Rutherford is as guilty as the Com· munist press which always refers to Soviet Russia as one of the "Big Four" democracies of the worldthe other three being, the United States, England and France, according to them. Our country was founded as a Christian nation, and it is aim08t blasphemy to group the United States with Soviet Russia, created and controlled by Godless gangsters 1

We hope that the bare scratehiDg of the surface, only possible within the pages of a sma1I pamphlet, has quickened your interest in the most vital pressing problem of the ages. We hope that you: noW realize ,that "Judge" Rutherford and bjs deluded Jehovah's Witnesses are but one link in the Satanic chain ~th which it is planned to enslave inaDkind. We h'o~, too, that you appreciate that GOO is not going to let Satan get entirely awpy with it. When we look back over the past twenty years and remem· ber that just that shprt tiple ~ the power we call Communism did not own or control one square mile of the world's surface, and 'then look around us today, then indeed the outlook would be black but for~'8 promises. Satan's crew now control Russia, most of China, one-third of Spain, Mexico, and have made great progress thruout the rest of the world. That means you and I must do our part about awakening' our friends and neighbors. Do it today!
