CONTEST FORMAT
1) All students will do the Dog/Cat Breed Identification, Parasitological, and Objective test
portion of the contest.
2) Communication Skills- Each team will choose one member to compete in each of the four
Communication Skill options:
Member A- Phone interview
Member B- Puppy/ Kitten scenario
Member C- Grooming scenario
Member D- Pet Store
3) Hands On- Each team will choose one member to compete in each of the four Hands On
options:
Option #1 Grooming
Option #2 Vet Clinic
Option #3 Lab Animal
Option #4 Pet Store/ Feed Nutrition
5) Registration will begin at 12:30 a.m. The competition for ALL teams will begin at 1:00. NO
EXCEPTIONS!!
Competition begins promptly for all contestants to begin the breed and parasitology
identification. This will be done with a power point presentation.
DOG/CAT BREED IDENIFICATION: 80 POINTS
A. I.D. 35 dog breeds recognized by American Kennel Club with their group
classification.
• Dogs from
each of the 7 classifications will be represented.
B. I.D. 5 cat breeds (from either long hair or short hair classifications) as recognized by
the Cat Fanciers of America
C. Each Identification will have a 15 second time allotment to be used for the breed and
group I.D.
PARISITOLOGY 80 POINTS
Member A: Phone
One team member will receive a telephone call from a customer to be handled on an
extemporaneous basis. Suggested calls might be from a customer inquiring about one of
the following:
a. Spay
b. Neuter
c. Declaw
d. Teeth cleaning
e. Worming
1) A new client coming in with a dog that is badly matted. Points to be covered or asked
about:
a. Introduction
b. Breed of the dog
c. Age of the dog
d. Temperament of the dog
e. Skin problems or moles
f. Any bad behaviors
g. Requested services
h. State possible services
i. Make an appointment
2) A new client comes in with an elderly dog. Points to be covered or asked about:
a. Introduction
b. Breed of dog
c. Age of dog
d. Temperament 0f the dog
e. Any bad behaviors or habits
f. Arthritis, moles or other age related problems
g. Requested services
h. Other concerns
i. Make an appointment
3) A new client comes in to make an appointment for a dog that has recently had surgery
or diagnosed with some condition. Points to be covered or ask about:
a. Introduction
b. Breed
c. Age of dog
d. Temperament of dog
e. Changes in temperament
f. Condition or wound to be considered
g. Services requested
h. Make an appointment
