CONFORMITY
Discuss factors influencing conformity (what makes people conform).
Informative social influence:
-Based on the need that everyone has uncertainty
-When in an uncertain situation you refer to others behavior to see how to act
-Other people possess informational or expert power

Normative social influence:


-Based upon the need for social acceptance and approval from others
-Do not want to disagree with the majority. They have coercive power
-You will publicly agree with the group but privately maintain your own belief

Group think influence:


-Group members having the same opinion without seeking out alternative opinions
-Members of the group doubt their own reservations and refrain from voicing
-Brainwashing

UNANIMITY
Complete agreement by all people in a given situation. When unanimous, everybody is of same mind
and acting together as one. Many groups consider unanimous decisions a sign of agreement,
solidarity, and unity.

Minority influence:
-Many big ideas started out as a minority
-Moscovici argued that the minority could influence the majority
