Safely
Aims for today
To understand why we must use
equipment in a safe manner
Mechanical safety
Electrical safety
Fluid safety
Pneumatic safety
Mechanical Safety
What do you think we mean by
“Mechanical Safety”?
Mechanical safety is the area of safety
that relates to any mechanical operation.
This could be using a machine i.e a lathe,
working in a car garage, or operating
equipment such as an angle grinder.
What precautions can we put
in place to protect ourselves
whilst carrying out mechanical
operations?
Examples of precautions
Gaurds Safe working
Training environment
PPE Tool inspections
Gloves Safety signs
Helmets
Ear defenders
Safety boots
Electrical safety
What do we mean by electrical
safety ?
“Electrical safety, is the precautions
we take when dealing with electricity.”
List as many precautions as you
can think of.
Have safety checks on
wires
Ensure that electrical
appliances are properly
protected i.e. RCDs and
circuit breakers
Use the minimum
voltage possible, out
doors use 110v
Fluid Safety
High pressure fluid
can puncture skin
and get in to the
blood stream.
|It can get into eyes
and equipment if
not used carefully
Never point a high
pressure fluid at
anyone.
Pneumatic safety
Do not point at
uncovered skin
Do not use towards
body or face
Caution must be taken
when blowing dust /
swarf
Use guards if inflating
objects
Never exceed rated
pressures
Ensure equipment
is maintained
Use only
equipment
designed for air
systems
