FEMALE INFANTICIDE IN INDIA

FEMALE INFANTICIDE: MEANING

 Female infanticide is the practice of intentionally
killing of female infants due to valuing male
children over female children.

Female infanticide is more common than killing

of male babies due to sex selective infanticide.

in order to please supernatural beings was far
more common in ancient history than in present
times.

 This is extrapolated on the basis of reduction of female to male
sex ratio from 945 per 1000 in 1991 to 745 per 1000 in 2001.
 The ratio is even lower in cases where a couple has had a previous
daughter and no sons, dropping it to 650per 1000 for the second
child if the first was a daughter.
 And 550 per 1000 for a third child if the first two were daughters.
