REP. KING INTRODUCES LEGISLATION

TO PROHIBIT GUNS AT FEDERAL EVENTS
WOULD PROTECT CITIZENS ATTENDING PUBLIC MEETINGS
Congressman Pete King today introduced legislation to protect citizens going to public events attended
by federal officials – including the President, Vice-President, Senators and Members of Congress.

Rep. King’s legislation, Securing Citizens’ Protection at Federal Events Act, would:

 Prohibit bringing guns to any such event; and

 Establish a 1000 foot gun free perimeter around the facility or premises where the event is
being held.

Rep. King said he decided to introduce this legislation after having discussions with numerous public
officials. “While this legislation would not prevent all shootings at public events,” Rep. King said, “police
experts tell me it would be a valuable tool toward preventing attacks such as the tragic assassination
attempt against Rep. Gabrielle Giffords which critically wounded her, killed six innocent people and
wounded 12 others.”

Rep. King said “a main purpose of this bill is to encourage citizens to attend these public events by giving
them a greater sense of security.”
