1. Why did you choose this lesson?

Brief summary of original lesson plan design/ goals

of lesson.

We chose this lesson because it was an actual lesson that was written for an fifth

grade elementary classroom. We felt that lesson could be expanded, and made

more fun and resourceful by incorporating specific technology. At the end of the

original lesson plan students, are to demonstrate the ability to answer questions

related to the key events in the reading through the use of post-it notes. They will

demonstrate the ability to connect information from facts found on the Internet to

what they read in the text, identify new facts in the text, and connect those facts to

major events in the story using a graphic organizer.

2. Define new lesson plan design/goals of lesson.

The goal of the new lesson plan design is to teach students how to use

computerized graphic organizers to help them connect information from their

readings, and save it as a rescource for future reference and projects that can be

readily accessed.

3. Which tools did you choose to incorporate into this lesson to potentially improve it?

The original lesson plan called for the use of multi-colored post-it notes. We

chose to use Post Its! and Jigsaw Diagram graphic organizers from

www.classtools.net. We felt this was an important modification because post-it

notes are easily lost, a challenge to save, and therefore are hard to keep as a

permanent resource. The Jigsaw Diagram organizer will be used by the teacher to

centralize and connect classroom information.

4. Why did you choose these tools?

We chose these tools because they lend themselves to the lesson, and allows the

students to stay familiar with the data collection process. The Post It! organizer

provides a neat, more permanent method of collecting, and storing information.

The Jigsaw Diagram provides a central, and organized place to reference the

information collected through the use of The Post It! organizer.

5. What standards were you using to guide your decision on this? NETS?

The standards we chose to use were...

6. Do you feel this will help improve your teaching? If so, why?

We beliI do believe this will help improve our teaching because we will be able to

use the Internet as a database for all of the work we assign students including the

past and future assignments. The Internet allows for a new type of hands on

learning that includes visual and audio with the ability to relive
