El Mahallah Spinning Company Workers on an Open Strike

Egypt, CTUWS, February 16, 2011: Today morning more than 20.000 workers of El Mahallah Spinning
Company started an open strike, seeking mainly for the dismissal of the commissioner-general, the
boards chairman, the head of legal affairs and the head of security department at the company, accusing
them for making the company loses 270 million pounds during the last two years.

The workers also demand:

- Forming an appointed board of directors to run the company until they elect a new board of
directors and fair trade union committee.
- Settling workers' wages degrees according to their qualifications.
- Establishing a new department for marketing and development.
- The dismissal of counselors and giving the chance for highly qualified young workers to be
appointed into leadership positions.
- Rising bonuses to 300% and meal allowance.
- Determent the minimum wage with 1200 pounds.
- Equality in distributing development incentive and retirement reward.
- The return of all labour leaderships in the company that have been dismissed or transferred
during the previous years.
