RULES AND REGULATIONS

Prelims Round:
• It involves targeting a ball into a hole.

• Hole size: avg diameter of 5 cm.

• Minimum number of steps involved in the contraption is 4.

• Arena will be a floor of size: 3mX3m.

• The maximum area enclosed by the whole setup: 3mX3m. No restriction of height for the
same.
• Position of the target is to be decided as desired by the participants. The target must not
be placed outside the arena.
• Time limit for the task completion: 15 min

Mains Round:
• It involves lighting a bulb.

• Minimum number of steps involved in the contraption is 6.

• Arena will be a floor of size: 4mX4m.
• The maximum area enclosed by the whole setup: 4mX4m. No restriction of height for the
same.

• The target can be placed anywhere in the arena by the participants as desired

• Time limit for task completion: 20 min.

TARGET FOR PRELIMS

TARGET FOR MAINS

Common rules for both rounds:
• The material required to perform the contraption has to be prepared by the
participant. Any additional stuff like batteries, motors, 230V power supply, candles,
adaptor, chemicals etc. will be provided by the organizers , though they would have
to be arranged by the participants. No special demands will be entertained.

• Members count in each team must not exceed 4.

• There is no upper limit to the number of steps in any of the rounds.

• Points are awarded based on nature of steps used. This is as follows:

Light 10 pts
Magnetic 10 pts
Sound 10 pts
Mechanical 9 pts
Electronic 9 pts
Chemical 8 pts
Electrical 8 pts

• Number of teams for mains will be selected as per total number of participants.

• Only two trials are allowed. The scoring formula will remain same for both the trials.

• Maximum of three human interventions are allowed in the first trial. This limit reduces to
two in the second trial. For each intervention "5" points will be deducted.

• Intervention is not allowed just before the completion of the task. E.g. if the contraption
consists of total 6 steps then no intervention is allowed in the 5th step.

• Any intervention must not exceed 2 min.

• Parallel contraption i.e., initiating two or more steps in between from a single step
and simultaneously going on but that should merge in some point of time before final
objective is complete would carry an additional “10” points for each extra step
irrespective of the type of energy conversion.

• Each team is required to submit an abstract. This would confirm team’s participation
in the competition.
• The setup must not contain any combustible, explosive, corrosive, or otherwise
dangerous materials for safety reasons. No explosive compression or decompression,
either internal or external is permitted.

• No open flames may be used on the machine.

• Each team will be given a reporting time for their performance.

• 20 min time will be given to install the contraption before the round starts. Failing to
comply for the same will result in disqualification.

SCORING FORMULA
Total points = 10*A + 9*B+ 8*C+ D*10- E*5+ F*50+ (G*75)
A - Total no of steps involving sound, magnetic, light till the contraption stops.
B - Total no steps involving mechanical, electronic energy till the contraption stops. C
- Total no. of steps involving chemical energy, electrical till the contraption stops.
D - No. of parallel contraptions originating from the same step till the contraption stops.
E- No. of interventions in the trial.
F = 0 - if ball is not set into the target
F = 1 – if ball is set into the target
G*= 1 - if bulb is lit
G* = 0 - if bulb is not lit
Note: F is exclusive for prelims & G is exclusive for the MAINS round.

TIEBREAKER
In case the total points of two teams are same, the team completing the task(s) in
minimum time will be declared as winner.
In the 2nd tiebreaker, teams with the maximum number of inter energy conversions (e.g.
electric al to mechanical is one inter energy conversion) wins.

ABSTRACT DETAILS
The abstract must not exceed 200 words. It should contain the following:
Explanation for each and every step.
Total number of steps. Number of
energy conversions.
Sketches/Flowcharts (if any) to explain any step.
