- A open source software is a software whose source code is

available to user.

- User can examine,evaluate and adapt the source code.

- The term „Open Source Software“ was created in 1998 as

a new label for Free Software.

- The idea behind is: Software or algorithms in general are

knowledge and knowledge should be free for everyone.

- Free Redistribution

- Availability of source code

- Integrity of authors source code

- Distribution of license

– Firefox or Mozilla web browser
– Open Office suite
– Apache or PHP
– database systems MySQL.

- Free software is free in the means of freedom not in cost.

Its freedoms refers to :

- Free to use for any purpose

- Free to redistribute

- Free to adapt and improve

- Free to study mechanisms of software

IT IS DIFFERENT FROM FREEWARES.
