As part of your assignment states, you must produce a portfolio
which documents your research and exploration of the play. Your log book will contain rehearsal notes and evidence of how you develop your character, however, you must demonstrate an understanding of the play as a whole and the context in which it is set. This can be presented in any medium but must include reference to the following points:
• Some clear research on the playwright Willy Russell
• An understanding of what life was like during the selected time period (1980). Who was running the country? What problems was the country facing? How was society dealing with this and what were the repercussions? • A plot of the play • An evaluation of the live performance (please refer to the guidance sheet given to you to write this essay) • An understanding of the themes which are explored in the play with direct examples from the performance itself, including:
Social Class Superstition Morality Relationships Friendship Crime Love Surrogacy Education
